MajorMinus 314
Has anyone got around to playing Silent Hill f? I finished the game yesterday and have been completely enamored with what a wonderful story it was. The gameplay was fun (though I preferred the SH2 remake more in that regard) but the story was something else. Having a hard time focusing at work tonight because I keep thinking about it. 1

EART HL I NG 499
I’m on my third playthrough which will be my second ending because I messed up my second play and got the first ending again I really like the game but I wish they had focused less on combat. SH usually presents combat as optional except for bosses and stuff but this one forces you into it and the combat system is so clunky. And, for me, doesn’t gel well with the Souls influence they took for combat. Other than that, I think it’s great and I wish people would stop saying it doesn’t have anything to do with the rest of the games because it does if you read some of the documents. I agree to some extent - SH2 had so many enemies, but because you had ranged weapons in that game, combat moved quicker…whereas in this game each encounter required a bit more time and care. But I do agree in that you don’t have has many “choices to run” and must tackle any enemy in your face - I would’ve liked less! I’ve always felt “Silent Hill” was more of a headspace and totally thought this game encapsulated it well - so I’ve been arguing with people on TikTok saying “it’s not a Silent Hill game.” Totally relates to the other games. Glad you enjoyed the game!! Really such a breath of fresh air in what I find to be a rather stale gaming era lately. (I’m so sorry you got the same ending twice, bleh!!) Which ending has been your fave so far?

Which ending has been your fave so far? Yes the ranged weapons made combat easier but for the most part (speaking on the original games, SH2 Remake definitely tries to pigeonhole you into combat as well) if you were low/ out of ammo you could scoot on by with exceptions of course. It’s been a minutes since I played an older game so the actual amount of forced/ necessary combat is a little fuzzy. And HEAVY on wanting less instances in SHf especially during the run back to Hinako’s house because I canNOT bear those birthing monsters or the pot-bellied things that jump- they’re too fast for the game’s combat system imo and they have so many attacks I also agree that SH is a headspace because a few games don’t take place in Silent Hill, Maine (there’s a neighboring town that idr the name of right now) so I interpret the town to be the protagonist’s personal Dante’s Divine Comedy in a way. But even then, in SHf’s own lore-building there are things written that almost directly tie to The Order from SH1 so when I see people say it isn’t a SH game I want to chew sheet metal 🤣🤣 the closest I can agree with people on is that it feels like a Siren game but it most definitely fits in the SH universe And so far I only got the default first ending, everyone’s first play through always gets the same ending first and because I forgot to do one thing at the beginning of my second playthrough it gave me that one again. I left off at Hinako’s house for my third and I once again forgot something but with the choices I’ve made I can confirm I’ll get the bad ending, but at least it will be a different one! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the game as well! I almost feel like there are more games that I’m enthusiastic about in this current period but when I think about it most of those are remakes/ remasters of older games I liked + indie games. AAA is dead on arrival as usual. And Rinko could have stayed her ass in that house as far as I’m concerned Edited 2 hours ago by EART HL I NG
Fantina 3,374
I haven't played it but I watched the entire gameplay online and let me say If this year's releases weren't so stacked, SH:f should have been up there nominated for Best Game of The Year. I loved the design of the monsters and the setting! The story too wasn't easily understood at the beginning, but the more you explore, the more you uncover and I think the game did this aspect very very well. My only critique is that it had way too many battle sequences and because the combat can feel clunky at times, I can definitely see how it would make some people give up (also you practically meet most of the monsters at the very start so you are basically stuck fighting the same things over and over again and yeah I can understand if people aren't super into this). I hate how many people **** on the game online just because it has a female protagonist. Also, I don't really think the "it doesn't feel like a SH game" critique is fair to say here because of games like RE:7 (which everyone raved about on its release) + that breathed new life into the genre, but let's face it, didn't feel like old RE games either (and I say this as a super fan of RE) Edited 1 hour ago by Fantina Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams. Haha, I can sympathize. (I still go to sleep with the lights on after playing, but it’s so worth the experience, lol). You might as well just watch an explanation of the story then because it’s so so so good! 7 minutes ago, EART HL I NG said: Yes the ranged weapons made combat easier but for the most part (speaking on the original games, SH2 Remake definitely tries to pigeonhole you into combat as well) if you were low/ out of ammo you could scoot on by with exceptions of course. That path to Hinako’s house definitely was a lot…I remember it being the only part of the game I was like “please be over!” (Also totally stealing “chew sheet metal” for future use - I LOL’ed!) Eager to hear your takes on the other endings. They’re all intriguing - but the bad ending was the most unsettling for me, hence my favorite. Ugh. Such a great story. And nice to converse with someone who isn’t a TikTok hater - I’ve been defending this game with my life!! Would love some indie game recs if you’d be so kind to give some. I don’t play them and need to dive into that world.

Such a great game that gets bogged down a bit by the combat. But that story was chef’s kiss. I don’t want to spoil anything on here for people who haven’t played, but man…I couldn’t rave more about it. Your statement about RE7 hits the nail on the head. Didn’t feel like the older games (and tbh, didn’t feel much like an RE game at all to me) - but it was hailed as a return to form solely because it strayed from action. Which RE series games were your favorite?

Which RE series games were your favorite? I liked a lot of it's main titles: RE7 is a masterclass in horror that every horror video game fan should at least attempt to play. If I was being super nitpicky, I would say the perfect momentum gets ruined a bit by the sections after Lucas's birthday room, but they also feel the most Resident Evil, so they can kind of get away with it. When I replay RE7 I really can't wait for the earlier sections with Jack and Marguerite, and the later sections (especially the boat) are some of the things I want to replay the least they aren't boring or super tough, but they can feel a bit out of place RE8 is one of my favorites too since I am in love with anything gothic. It went with the action aspect of RE4 and did it really well. Each area felt different and offered a new aspect of horror which I adored. The mercenaries game mode is super fun because you get to play as Lady D and throw vanities at enemies RE2:RE has probably the best zombies in all of media (counting films, video games, everything). The only game that I played that sometimes keeps me up at night and is actually really scary. Right now I am going through the catalogue and attempting to play old horror games so I can't wait to play the OG Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0 and maybe the old RE3 and Code Veronica. Karl 3,436
I'm enjoying it for the atmosphere but I think the weapons breaking system is dumb, multiple times I've just had to run through the area searching for a weapon, I get that it makes it scarier but I just find it tedious
