I dislike almost everything about it. The cracked porcelain make up was great, though.

The island of the dolls as a setting was wasted. It's one hell of a creepy place and the video made it look like it was filmed in a basic studio lot with random old dolls, perhaps mostly because of the lack of color, although the scenes in color are not much better since they are coated in that purple lighting characteristic of basic 2014 music videos.

Couldn't they at least have filmed some scenes on a traditional mexican boat?

It kinda gave me the same vibe of The Edge of Glory which had to be filmed at last minute.

I wouldn't mind if it was just a Wednesday soundtrack song but she added this mid song with a mid video to Mayhem... Well, whatever.

ROM, Applause, GUY and 911 choreos are way better than TDD :bear:

True. Though I think the dance was choreographed for the series and Gaga just did the same. Can we call Paris back?

The video feels like a shortened version of an 7 minute epic…

it leaves to many questions and it doesn’t tell a story in the same way as Gaga’s best videography, and only one outfit… it needs to go somewhere

else last minute going back to being dead again for a moment and coming back to life would’ve built more tension

The series has been out for 1,5 days. That is enough

Applause and GUY are great choreo, but I don’t care for ROM or 911  Abra is her best choreo in yeeeeaaaars and I think TDD’s choreo is great :abra:

He gave us nothing, they didn't even need to shoot on location. Could easily have been a set or a green screen from what they showed us.

that's exactly how it feels, a bunch of dolls in a studio set and a fog machine, not an iconic island of dolls

GUY video is a great example of the location being a part of the visual

mother, what must i do?

Yeah contrary to popular belief due to the current Mayhem era.

Parris was not the choreographer for this. It was a male choreographer contracted by Netflix for Wednesday. I forgot his name. But I saw him commenting on several IG videos of people doing the choreo.

90% of the choreo are moves that we've seen gaga do before but just reworked and im not mad cuz i see this is as what it is, promo for Netflix and mayhem

The problem was that it leaked and in those 12 seconds we saw everything the video had to offer. More scenes and a different outfit would’ve done wonders. The fact that with the leak you pretty much got the gist of it shows lack of visual world building, which makes sense for a video that was probably shot in 1 day

I think this was all just a bonus from working with them on Wednesday. He was probably more focused on that, and the fact that it was directed by him is probably just more for project continuity than anything. If not for Wednesday, I don’t think it would’ve happened at all.

I enjoyed it. I find it really unique and campy and she did really well! But yeah I think the Tim Burton name attachment was more of a “we’re already technically working together, so why not” kind of thing

Yes, the use of AI looked really amateur, Gaga had some takes that should have been trimmed down, some angles and shots were weird and redone, I also think the set design and costuming felt rushed and kinda cheap...

Overall, a miss in terms of Gaga standards despite Tim directing...I expected a Paparazzi esque level mini film or cinematography...
