Scheiße as a single

Idk about the charts and all that but the song is basically more of a staple than most of her singles at this point.

The BTWB, Coachella, JWT, Enigma, Chaos shows, and Mayhem Ball.

Hell, most singles don't even make it out of their respective eras

it’s one of my favorite songs on BTW but i think it would have been a weird pick as a single. it’s too hard to sing along to

Had “Scheiße” been released after “Yoü And I”, it would have stood no chance to make it in the top 20 of the BBH100. “Marry The Night” just did as good as any single could.

I think they pretty much picked the perfect singles (not really with the right timing), but truthfully, at this point in her career, the success of her singles wasn’t THAT dependent on the sound of the songs. 

“Scheiße” would have been #1 for a couple weeks if it was the first single, not for as long as “Born This Way”, though. It would’ve probably just missed the top 10 if it was released instead of “Judas”, “The Edge Of Glory” or “Yoü And I”, just for the its title and gibberish parts. In terms of massive singles success appeal, she was cooked after the summer and just couldn’t be saved, no matter what the song was. 

That said, for the 5th single and to maximize the chances to avoid a G.U.Y.-sized flop, I believe they essentially had two options: “Marry The Night” or “Bloody Mary”, the most accessible tracks for the GP as well as fan favorites. They chose “Marry The Night”, one of the two best options, probably hoping to kinda replicate the reception to “The Edge Of Glory”. I believe “Bloody Mary” would’ve been a slightly better choice back in the day, but it couldn’t have done wonders anyway.

Marry The Night didnt Flop because it was a bad song. It flopped cuz anything Gaga released at that point would have flopped. She was just too disliked by GP and critics by that point

For fans yes, not for the GP.
 

The only way Scheisse would do well is it came after a “normal” single. The reason is that people were kind of put off by the title track and controversy, so they wanted a more digestible track like MTN/ TEOG after BTW. So a line up like this could have worked: 

1. BTW (february 2011)

2. MTN/ or TEOG (May 2011)

3. Scheisse (August 2011)

It’s my favourite song but I firmly believe it wouldn’t have made a good single whatsoever. The title alone wouldn’t get it to chart or played on radio in Eastern Europe. Sonically it’s great though.

I mean she wanted it to be a single from the beginning hence why we got the remix of it before the album, and she tried to use the FAME as to promote it and even recorded a music video for it on the set. But nothing happened and they noticed that fans liked HML (hence why she performed it on NYE) but it made no noise so they just moved on.

Back then I think they made all the wrong choices for singles and Gaga’s OG idea of

Marry The Night

Born This Way

Scheiße

The Edge of Glory 

as a single run would’ve worked better imo.

IDK. Everytime I slip it on a collaboration playlist someone asks about it. This happens now with Perfect Celebrity and Can't Stop The High (only on YT premium)

 

At that time everything related to her was hated. Look at TEOG! In a multiverse were TEOG wasn't a single, then would have been thousands of million of fans saying that "it would've smashed it, top#1 forever, etc"
