I hate to say it and it’s SO much easier to say this in hindsight - obviously - but VIY should have been the lead instead of Disease. It’s the only song that gets universal acclaim. I get that some don’t live for it since it’s not a cunty dance track, but I think it would have set Mayhem on a better trajectory.

I think John Wayne got lucky in that its clearly filmed while she was also working on the JWT interludes. 

I did think there was a chance of the same thing happening for a Mayhem song, but the interludes this era are just her in a costume narrating the story or are performed live by the dancers at the show. So we missed out there.

Honestly, with all the teasing she did about darker aesthetics etc going into the Mayhem era. The run into the album being DWAS/Harlequin/Lead & Album confirmed and VIY release......the meltdowns would have destroyed the era. 

VIY gets universal acclaim because it was a surprise on album release for the fans. It would have been savagely attacked if she lead with it after essentially promising DarkGa

There is nothing misterious, she just don't want to do the promotion like in beginning of her career, up until ARTPOP maybe. It's simple, all you have to do is finally belive it.
