Chappell Roan reveals that her second album doesn’t exist yet

“The second project doesn’t exist yet,” Roan clarifies. “There is no album. There is no collection of songs.”

She goes on: “It took me five years to write the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next. I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out.” Nor does Roan see any creative value in churning out music under pressure. “I don’t think I make good music whenever I force myself to do anything,” she says. “I see some comments sometimes, like, ‘She’s everywhere except that damn studio.’ Even if I was in the studio 12 hours a day, every single day, that does not mean that you would get an album any faster.”

Excited if its really gonna take that long, I doubt it.

But she made it clear she does not want Fame at all costs, one thing that differenciates her a lot from Gaga. She is not that passionate about the fame and superstar aspect, and thats fine. That being said, I loved Gagas drive at the beginning of her career, she WANTED it and she did everything to achieve it!

Was it the most healthy? No. But I think she and all of us are so proud of her achievements, Gaga is still the ultimate superstar

I'm sure it'll go faster than that but yeah take your time. Atp she knows she has fans and singles genuinely are more important generally speaking. Albums are good for being massive moments of concerted attention, but better to use that platform wisely and sparingly ala brat or mayhem then try your hardest to pump out stuff so fast especially for a sophomore album

I don't see it taking another 5 years. It's gonna come out 2027 if not next year. Her label won't allow her to wait that long. At the end of the day record deals are business arrangements and labels aren't just gonna let new artists decide their timeline. They're gonna wanna capitalize on her relevancy.

Eh, if the last singles are anything to take by, she should take her time to find a new, fresh and exciting song, or we'll have a Swift or Lana situation where the last few albums kind of bleed into each other.

I mean, not all artists are out to reinvent the wheel with every album. Some people have a designated style and that’s perfectly fine.

Also she’s fully just throwing that time frame out there since that’s how long her debut took. She said just a couple months ago that she wasn’t sure when “The Subway” was being released because she wasn’t sure how to make the studio version work. She also mentioned having a bunch of songs she wanted to put out. I think she’s just trying to manage expectations.

True. Lorde took 4 years to release her sophomore album so I’m assuming 2027 will be Chappell’s next album release

I mean her debut was quite incredible with a really cool soundscape, while the last few songs felt like such a downgrade sonically. 

We'll see, but if most artists are anything to go by, it's good to take a break to find yourself and  something fresh to put out. Gaga, Florence, Aurora etc all take a few years to build a good soundscape and new eras that always blow people away.
