how am i embarrassing myself when you can't even read girl :messga:

since you need your hand held: “I think I’d give up a few rights / If you would just love me / Like it’s 1965.”

singing about giving up your rights as a woman just for a man in today's age where women are literally losing rights is in incredibly bad taste and terrible satire

mother, what must i do?

here's what i think about this, one more time just 'cause u're a little slow... "Don't know who she is but who cares? It's just a song/lyric, art is not supposed to be taken literally."

let it go :kiss:

I'm so over the trad wife movement.

If this is supposed to be satire, it's not done very well.

Also, the singer comes across as insufferable, calling listeners stupid.

I don't believe for a minute that she genuinely supports the trad wife movement. Any interview with her will tell you she's clearly not about that life. But it's no coincidence that we're getting songs and imagery in the pop sphere right now that are referencing this during Trump's re-instatement and traditionalism resurfacing. It's not just music either, podcasters and media personalities are encouraging traditionalism and rage-baiting with stuff about women who don't serve their men are lazy and deserve to be cheated on. In Jessie's case, I hope it's label pressure as opposed to her sole vision. It's concerning that Jessie and/or her label are seeing an opportunity to profit from 2 markets: liberals who will enjoy the song ironically as a piece of satire for light entertainment in the current age we're living in and conservatives who are anti-feminist and genuinely wish we could turn the clock back on dating dynamics and enjoy the song because they think it annoys liberals. At the end of the day, however, I don't really know who this song is for. It's just downright weird. I saw a great comment on her live performance that went: "It's interesting to hear once, but I don't think this is music people will actually buy."

It definitely is meant to be satire, though. You can tell from the retro intro and the nonsense spoken outro but the issue is that it isn't funny enough to land and it isn't made clear enough that she's joking. Just like something can be classed as comedy even if it isn't actually funny. The point of the song may well be that women have always had it bad in relationships regardless of time period and going back to 1965 wouldn't improve women's situations at all. I can get behind a message like that. I hate it when feminism is cited as the reason why women now are so unhappy and if we went back to the 50's, we'd find our true calling. The whole reason why society stepped out of that lifestyle was because people weren't happy. And while modern living has undoubtedly made us unhappy in many ways, there's never been a time when life was amazing for everyone. Same sh*t, different era, basically. If that's what she wanted to say, she could've expressed that so much better. But her youth and naivety were her undoing and her label should've realised that. But I suspect they knew the outrage this song would cause could provide a big break for her. But it seems that it's just bringing her infamy at the moment.
