I don’t think any of this outweighs the positive message of the song, but I also don’t think it’s fair or accurate to say that people taking issue with those terms is a byproduct of reactionary PC/“safe space” culture. So im genuinely asking (not trying to start something) Oriental is a region of the map and usually the same word used to describe people from said region. You can also say Caucasion or Latino as a generalized term but just like Oriental, it encopases more just just 1 specific Country/Nationality. Its an ethnic category. But we dont get offended when people say Caucasion or Latino even though it isnt always specific to only 1 Country So what makes Oriental offensive? It's more about the message and less about the vibes. We don't have any new big songs with the similar message. Ill be honest with you. I dont deny the intent behind the message of the song But the song itself to me is cheesy AF and it was never among my fav BTW songs. I almost never listen to it. In fact it was my least fav of the singles (You and I almost a tie tho for bottom), and theres countless album tracks on the album i also prefer over btw Like whatever devate about offensiveness there is about the track, I suspect is not the main reason its not pulling numbers. The GP does not consider it one of her catchy iconic hits and many fans clearly prefer other tracks also Theres radio stations in Toronto that play Gaga songs a lot but its always: Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi, Bad Romance and now Die With A Smile Born This way I only hear occasionally if its in June and then its totally forgotten lol

Theoretically, I don’t think you’re wrong that it’s not intrinsically offensive, but generally, it was the way in which it was used to reinforce broad racial stereotypes of Asian people (mocking their appearances, languages, and treating them as “foreigners” and “others” relative to Europeans and “westerners”). I just don't think people want to listen this type of music rn, the cheesy, anthemic songs about self-love and acceptance and it's not something people want from Gaga. That's one of the reasons I think Lizzo is flopping rn, because that is her brand. And Pride month is not Christmas, it's not celebrated as widely, so even without offensive lyrics in BTW I wouldn't expect big streaming numbers for the song.
