The 5 year Bond yield went above 3% for the first time in 6 months on the news. The Canadian economy has faced some softness since mid 2022 amid surging interest rates which created imense pressure on an over heated housing market. Canadians are also some of the most indebted consumers in the world at near 180% of annual income making the Canadian economy highly interest rate sensitive Add to that and since Trump took over the tarrifs and uncertainty has worried many that it would be the straw to break the camels back and send the Country into a crisis Despite a 3 year Housing market slump since 2022, higher rates on indebted consumers and tarrif unvertainty the economy has beaten eatimates and remained resilient though unemployment has risen to 6.9% vs a low of 5% just two years ago Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
