Sabrina Carpenter says she’s considered banning phones at her concerts
“This will honestly p–s off my fans, but absolutely,” she explained, noting she was inspired by a Las Vegas show from Silk Sonic which required her to lock her phone up.”
“I’ve never had a better experience at a concert,” Carpenter explained. “I genuinely felt like I was back in the Seventies — wasn’t alive. Genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone’s singing, dancing, looking at each other, and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.”

“I’ve grown up in the age of people having iPhones at shows,” Carpenter continued. “It unfortunately feels super normal to me. I can’t blame people for wanting to have memories. But depending on how long I want to be touring, and what age I am, girl, take those phones away. You cannot zoom in on my face. Right now, my skin is soft and supple. It’s fine. Do not zoom in on me when I’m 80 years old up there.”

The topic of banning phones at gigs has been a contentious one over the years, with artists wishing for fans to live in the moment, and fans desiring a chance to memorialize their concert experiences.

I would understand and agree if it was Madonna, but its not like Sabrina puts on a good show, people could easily get board without a phone for a 2 hour at a Sabrina show.

Honestly I went to a gig that used these yondr pouches to lock your phone up while letting you have it on your person.

It is genuinely the best gig I've been to in at least 10 years. Until you've been in a phone free gig you dont realise how much having phones around alter the experience.

From the way they alter crowd engagement with the show - big moments are now enjoyed live rather than just a moment to film for example. People seem less restricted on how they behave- be it dancing or singing along no longer worried about their own videos or others filming them. I made temporary friends in the crowd for the evening. The band feed off the energy and are able to hit that next level as well.

I truly think it should become the norm.

I'd support this. I hate seeing a sea of phones, and am someone who definitely would rather be in the moment vs. looking through a screen to make sure I'm filming properly.

At the end of the day, the artists should be able to choose this mandate if they want. Don't like it? Don't buy a ticket.

(And leave the sneaky filming to the experienced sneaks who can do it without getting caught :hor: )

I’d be all for this if more artist released recordings of their shows. Audio, visual, whatever. Ticket prices are forever going up, I’d like to at least have a photo/video to remember the night.

People are spending thousands of dollars on tickets and traveling abroad to see their favorite artists for you to whine about being recorded for an hour and half :Cautious:

I’m all for being in the moment and not using my phone that much but come on, artists need a reality check
