Oh girl I grew up with people who call Muslims "sand n-words".

There's no helping them. They're not teachable or reachable.

You can only crush them.

That name came up after 11/9 I think.

I think they're already racist; using an already racist word with 'sand' to make it even more racist shows how racist you are.

Well yeah. I just don't think bigots are worth our time to try and teach tbh. The best thing we can do is ostracize them and render their backwards views a thing of the past.

Those that are fixable will change with the times and those that aren't will die hateful bastards.

I ultimately think that line of thinking is a little dodgy, because I think it, to an extent, removes agency from those being antisemitic. I mean, no matter what Likud or Netanyahu does, antisemitism is still unacceptable. In relation to Jews feeling scared to show their Jewish identity in public, the damage is ultimately done by the antisemites who conflate Netanyahu with all Jews.

Netanyahu himself is absolutely trying to conflate himself with all Jews regardless of where they are, and it's definitely having an effect, but antisemites are the ones actually causing the rise in antisemitism, not him. If they weren't already antisemites, they wouldn't need to look for an excuse to cover up their behaviour.

I do agree with the sentiment you expressed though, that what's happening is making it worse. But it's not creating antisemites, just giving them a convenient excuse.

I understand what you are saying. And I do agree. It's ultimately the two polar extremes on this issue, essentially working together on the specific issue of antisemitism because both benefit from them.

There is a specific reason why groups like AIPAC in the US/LFI in the UK have deliberately sought to use the media to blur the line between of criticism of Israel and Antisemitism though.

I don't think it creates antisemites, you are 100% right in stating that bigots are just taking advantage of the situation- but what it  does allow is the media to create antisemites out of people saying perfectly moderate things like "don't bomb children" alongside the blatant dehumanisation of palestinians by pro-Israeli government media in the west.

Like until recently, and there has been a very recent shift in tone, the UK media would always link the attacks in Gaza on civilians to Hamas - regardless of the civilians age. It was not uncommon to see a photo of a parent crying and holding their dead child in the UK press alongside the headline of "Israel bombs alleged Hamas Hospital". And then on the discussion part of the show you'd have someone criticising the attack met with the constant "why do you oppose attacking Hamas".

And that's why its been so easy to discredit allegations of antisemitism as a result.

I mean could be. It's definitely not a coincidence that Israel started carpet bombing their prisoners and then the rate of antisemitic attacks/instances skyrocketed though.

Whether it emboldened them or they took Netanyahu's "we are Jews" spiel to heart, idk if that's really a worthwhile debate.

Antisemitism bad, Israel also bad.

That's kinda all we need lmao

I'd say it only emboldened people who were already prone to being antisemitic, but there's no objective right or wrong, just our different opinions.

Stupid or hypocrites? I wouldn't use such names to call people who have been made to think that all Muslims are terrorists, or all Muslim women are suppressed, or that Arabs don't have vehicles or homes and live only in desert tents and ride camels, but I would take the time to educate them out of the stereotyped they were fed with by the media on Palestine/Islam/Middle East/Arabs.

If they learn and still want to be a racist, then yes they are stupid.

I was using stupid as a slightly snarky synonym for uneducated there. So I don't disagree. I do somewhat agree with PartySick though that as long as these people are as set in their ways as they are, it's insurmountably difficult to in any way get through to them.

The Young Turks! It’s the media outlet she started out with (a progressive news outlet that used to be pretty good but has skewed more reactionary in recent years)

TYT stands for the The Young Turks which is an online news talk show.

The Young Turks, the online news and commentary show, is liberal or progressive in its political orientation. The show's co-creator and host, Cenk Uygur, identifies as an "independent progressive". The show's focus is on issues relevant to what Uygur describes as the "98 percent 'not in power'" and the 60 percent of Americans who hold progressive views.

There are filters, layers of awareness people need to get passed before they perceive beyond easy labels and stereotypes laid on by years of brainwashing on both sides and supporting sides of this issue.

If enough people were educated to not be fooled by propaganda, would there be anyone willing to fight and die for lies or misunderstandings?

It's strange how people of faith can't share the peace and land they seem to yearn for and innocents, children become collaterial.

In my opinion, TYT are the only progressive network being heavily attacked by the left, and yet they still refuse to abandon their progressive ideas, and refuse to be reactionaries. Ana can get emotional and unhinged sometimes, but shes still extremely progressive and pro trans.
