So first lets put all of the millions of creative people out of work. Who's next?

Yeah. All "intellectual jobs" (let's say accounting, audit, writing, translating etc...) will disappear too in the very near future in my opinion.

It feels like AI is the technological innovation since phones or even the internet. It's extremely bad for artists and the environment but it also gives me awe bc that's soo crazy.

I'm sorry but this has gone too far and I think it's extremely dangerous

The scariest thing is that this is literally just the beginning of AI. This is nothing. In a couple of years its going to be so much more advanced.

Can someone please enlighten this middle-aged Millennial who avoids social media (but is occasionally on this cult site and Reddit) - who in the actual **** is using AI and thinking it is a positive experience/good for society?  Doesn't this contribute to losing creative jobs?  Doesn't AI cause more harm than good?

Also, aren't the massive facilities running all this technology also ruining the environment?

I work in mental health, and there are emerging studies that have shown how many people have actually turned to ChatGPT for support/or would consider it.  It's very, very disturbing.  Some may argue it would help with shortages, but like, goddamn, they can't even pay me a living wage as a fully licensed counselor.  Also, if people are too anxious to go to see an actual human, what does that say?

Automating jobs should hypothetically help us live more comfortable lives; however, given that we are in Late Stage Capitalism, the rich will keep getting richer and the poor, poorer.

I truly think those in favor of all this late stage greed and profit are apathetic, inhumane, and don't realize "you can't take it with you."  It's gross as ****.

As Edward Albee once said: "Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell."

No wonder we have mental health crises - our material conditions are not conducive to humane treatment of humans (and other sentient creatures/the planet) - and yet we still all hum along with it - cogs in the machine.

To the comment about uncanny valley - I agree, there's always something "off" about these AI videos - and I'm afraid it might get better in the future.

In solidarity, ya'll.

in all seriousness, i f*cking hate ai.  it's why i can't get commissions.  i am a broke bitch because anything i can draw, ai can do in two seconds.  i'm just glad i don't post my art online for ai to scrape and train itself.

A good thread on DeepFakes, since it's tangentially related.

Figured I'd share, since even I wasn't aware how convincing they got and also how extensively people use deep fakes to harass and scam.

Probably a good idea to get in the habit of keeping your face off of social media, unless you intend to wear heavy make up/alter your appearance to the point you're unrecongniseable in the image.

I genuinely can't even feign interest (or scorn tbh) for generative AI because to me it just feels so stupid and pathetic. It literally feels like someone jiggling keys in my face and going 'OMG isn't it amazing!!!???!! Aren't you impressed!???!!!!!' Watching people go gaga (sorry) for it feels like when my friends were amazed with cleverbot/smarterchild on AOL when we were kids until we got bored and moved on. No one will regulate this because it has to be financially successful to justify the amount of money being put into it, so we're going to spend years being bombarded with how necessary and groundbreaking it is for the average joe when really we don't need any form of it at all.

I agree with the anti-AI crowd wholeheartedly and understand that these models were 'trained' on stolen work, but knowing that it will be primarily be used to create clickbait social media slop, scams, and p*rn of children and nonconsenting women makes being the voice of reason feel so pointless tbh (not that those things are low stakes, of course not!!! - I just mean it feels like trying to put the genie back in the bottle, kinda like walking around telling people that murder is bad)

No matter how desperately they try and bill it as a way to democratize art, it is so abundantly clear that this will be used to further exploit the exploited and further cut corners that are already being cut. It doesn't matter that it looks like sh*t, because it doesn't need to look good for what it will be used for in 99.9% of cases. Just absolutely dire stuff. :sue:

AI itself is not evil. It's simply algorithmic programs that create simulations based on amalgamations of things that already exist.

Like any other tool, it has the potential to be incredibly cool or incredibly damaging.

With proper regulation to protect privacy, art ownership, some level of body autonomy (as in, not being able to type the prompt "Shawn Mendes getting railed by Justin Bieber" and getting a realistic video of that happening which is incredibly inappropriate and disturbing), it would be THE greatest innovation in human history. Even more so than the internet, probably.

As it is now, it's feeding into our worst traits as humans. Giving ammunition to the dishonest, feeding the loneliness epidemic, stealing not only art but artists' jobs, threatening industries with automation leaving potential millions on the verge of unemployment...

But, we're doing all of that to ourselves. It's not AI, just like it's not religion, and it's not guns. It's our refusal to use tools or ideas in altruistic and responsible ways.

Thissss. I hate that they even call it "artificial intelligence". There is no intelligence here, it's just a line of code that can press ctrl-f, ctrl+c, ctrl+v without much human intervention.

Get ready for AI religions to spring up soon...at least AI immediately answers your questions and pleas for help unlike capital H-I-M :trollga:

Very soon in our lifetime...i feel we will reach AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)

Once that takes place...i fear we are no longer in control and the future is truly unknown since well have an equal or far superior intelligence by our sides.

Will it work with us or destroy us? :wtfga:
