EU Council To Discuss Removal Of Hungary Voting Rights In EU

The Council of the European Union will hold a hearing on May 27 on depriving Hungary of a vote under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, according to the agenda published on its website.

Article 7 of the Treaty on the European Union allows for suspension of some rights of the community states, including the voting rights of a country's representative in the EU Council over actions that run counter to common values.

Earlier, the Financial Times reported that many EU officials discussed depriving Hungary of a vote due to Budapest's ability to block key decisions of the community primarily related to Russia.

Honestly, if anything, this orange clown and his fans in the WH only strengthened the left and brought the EU closer together. thx babes.

Lack of unity, more nations were closer to Orban than they were western europe. 

In the last few years since the invasion of Ukraine we've seen a number of central & eastern nations reverse course and either elect more EU supportive governments or the existing governments have swung back into pro-EU stances. 

As a result, Orban who is one of the few remaining European leaders from the hard right & the pro russian right has become increasingly isolated.

Nah, it's been a few years that only Hungary would vote against certain provisions. They should've done this years ago already. They're incredibly slow

A few years of Hungary blocking doesn't mean that all the other member states were unanimously opposed to action against Hungary. 

A number of nations benefited from Orban blocking policies they disliked but didn't want to risk the reputational damage of opposing. 

Plus, until this year we've been able to rely on America.

I would say that it’s imperative to do this to Hungary and any other country that isn’t on the same page as the EU. They need to be extremely streamlined and ready to make quick decisions now that the US is an adversary and trade relations can fall apart in the blink of an eye.
