Idrc how ironic that is  just tired of living in a world where society is consistently held back by people who believe in crazy things. Especially when it puts evil people in positions of influence.

In the news they're saying he's not as conservative as most other options, and based on his speech, he seems to respect Francis' approach. Not sure if we'll see this man blessing trans sex workers, like Francis did, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt . His speech so far does not seem as conservative or terrible.

Because there are 1.4 billion Catholics in the world and whoever holds this position is the "head" of all of them. They respect and listen to the pope, so who they choose to put in charge is imperative.

I mean, if I had it my way, any organized religion would be dismantled because I think many horrible things are done in the name of the religion, and covered up because of it too. But we can't ignore the reality that a lot of people follow the church, its teachings, and its leader.

If he did most of his work in Peru, I doubt he'll have a super conservative approach. I think he already broke protocol a little bit by speaking in spanish for a short time during the speech. 

We'll see, I'm not a hater yet. He mentioned king Francis twice, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now

He was one of Francis' right hand men within the power structure of the Vatican. Definitely seems like a successor rather than a regressor

I don't know much about him, and I guess like some people have speculated, the people who are always the "frontrunners" rarely end up becoming pope. I don't remember seeing this guy anywhere.

I don't know much about him. From what I've read, he seems less progressive than Francis, but is an overall centrist (but better than many of the hardcore conservative options). I also heard he's super anti-Trump. Idk how true that is, but it's good if he is. I hope he's able to forward Francis' legacy, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Also, an American pope in this political climate/culture?? Certainly an interesting choice. Idk what the church is trying to signal about that...
