Gaga fans hold grudges against the wrong people. Madonna never spoke about gaga in the demeaning way that some of their faves likes lana del rey and azealia banks have yet some users almost worship them but act like Madonna was so out of line and irredeemable 

Part of me wonders if Gaga fans are just butthurt because Madonna is obviously closer with a lot of other female artists than she is with Gaga and their dreams of a collab will probably never come true    There's no other reason why they're still holding a grudge over this when both women have since moved on from whatever happened back then. It's always a bit silly to see stans trying to frame it like Madonna was never supportive, or like she was threatened, when she was quite literally a friend and mentor to Gaga early on and often spoke about her positively.

The criticism did seem to take the wind out of the song’s sails.

well that has nothing to do with the Madonna's team Email situation, that was Gaga expressing her opinion about the comparisons, and everyone can have one, i don't find them similar at all either other than the chord progression, even stylistically and thematically they are so different.
Gaga's apology was because of the use of the R word and her overall demeanoor which was so wrong of course, not of her stance about the madonna situation, and it was not even directed at her, but the press at the time bashing her nonstop about being a madonna copycat, so at that point she was clearly frustrated, then Madonna decided to fuel the fire herself too but much later in 2012 when they both were on tour

And as much as she akwnowledged Gaga's talent (which was undeniable) i feel she did just out of courtesy and diplomacy, she never championed Gaga the way she did with her other contemporaries at the time like Katy, which she hyped and praised to the roof which is funny given how badly her cataloge has aged, and just her as an artist. even at the time it was clear what kind of personality she was yet she insisted on praising her for some reason.

Madonna never called Gaga reductive. She said she felt the song and comparisons were reductive. Have you actually seen that full interview? Because she was very complimentary towards Gaga and said she was flattered to be seen as an inspiration and didn’t find them to be similar artists at all. She’s never once actually bad mouthed Gaga as a person or artist. Even when she spoke about it again in 2015:

“I don’t think she wants my crown,” Madonna says, referring to Gaga. “We live in a world where people like to pit women against each other. And this is why I love the idea of embracing other females who are doing what I’m doing. . .The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs. It’s got nothing to do with ‘she’s taking my crown’ or ‘she’s in some space of mine.’ She has her thing. I do think she’s a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue. And everybody’s obviously running with it and turned it into a huge feud, which I think is really boring, quite frankly. And you know what? I don’t care anymore.”

In any case, like Madonna, I have no desire to continue going in circles over a long dead subject. All I’ll say is that you are misinformed, or you’re not caught up about everything that went down. But the receipts are there whenever you decide to dive deeper.
