Utah bans fluoride in public drinking water

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah has become the first state to ban fluoride in public drinking water, pushing past opposition from dentists and national health organizations who warn the move will lead to medical problems that disproportionately affect low-income communities.

Republican Gov. Spencer Cox signed legislation Thursday barring cities and communities from deciding whether to add the mineral to their water systems.

Florida, Ohio and South Carolina are considering similar measures, while in New Hampshire, North Dakota and Tennessee, lawmakers have rejected them. A bill in Kentucky to make fluoridation optional stalled in the state Senate.

The American Dental Association sharply criticized the Utah law, saying it showed “wanton disregard for the oral health and well-being of their constituents.”

I understand the benefits of fluoride but id rather keep brushing twice a day which already contains plenty of fluoride than to have to drink it and ingest it as well

 

I have filters to reduce clorine and fluirode in water. Would be nice if it just wasnt there in the first place

 

Well at least the fluoride. I guess u still need the chorine or something simmilar or else water could come contaminated

Fluoride is fine. There's a reason so many dentists advocate for water to contain it.

There are direct correlations between the amount of fluoride in drinking water and the average amount of cavities or missing teeth any one person has.

The rise of bottled water is even reflected in the number of people with tooth decay issues 'cause most bottled water isn't fluoridated.

The same people who rail against fluoride are the same people that believe GMOs are mutated and full of poisons.

But! There are people who can't afford all that which means they probably can't afford good dental care either. Fluoride in their water can be a big help.

I already get heavy fluride doses when i brush my teeth twice a day. Dont really feel the need to ingest it too (additional amounts by drinking)

Fluoride in water provides a consistent low dose of fluoride which helps strengthen enamel and protect from cavities, it's more effective than only getting it from brushing twice a day.

I believe it, but the argument is always on teeth alone. I question possible other health impacts of constantly consuming it

 

Yes I know, "theres no scientific evidence it hurts u". But thats what we always say about chemicals for 30, 40, 50 years until we find out if actually has some potential impacts

 

Im sure its not devestating nor is it something i stress about. But i still prefer to use my filter that removes some of the added chemicals from water in any case
