gaga is 10x more talented than KP, she had one insane era but gagas built a legacy that will be remembered for decades. KPs determination to collab with dr puke is also her biggest downfall.

My emotions blinded me :laughga: he only produced Wide awake and Part of me but those songs are FIREEE he also worked with every pop girl in the early 2010s a.k.a. The best eras of our divas: Rihanna, Britney, Kesha, Nicki

like it’s still so ironic how she didn’t pick him up :saladga: and how Gaga decided to work with him after working with every pop girl of her generation except her

Dr Luke was still the lead (I believe) producer on those two tracks so it could have even been that Cirkut wasn't in the studio but maybe added additional things like some of the Chromatica producers did. So Katy might not have had much in the studio interactions with Cirkut if that's the case, but the production on 143 doesn't even sound much like Dr Luke's sound anyway outside of Woman's World so it literally could have been produced by anyone making even less sense why she would go to him

well I just happened to come across Gaga's sketch with Kenan from her 2013 feature on SNL, in which she played an old forgotten pop diva who lingered to the famous old days of hollywood and show business version of herself, so hilarious, very Sunset Blvd vibes.

I couldn't help but comment "and to think this is current day Katy Perry" :bye:

"hey kiddos do you remember this one it used to be very popular in the internet a while ago, back in the year 2010, it goes a little like this I KNOW A PLACE WHERE THE GRASS IS REALLY GREENER"

This literally is an album I would listen to if I wanted to transport myself back to the early 2010s and you can take that statement however you please.

Exactly, this album reminds me of gay marriage being illegal

I agree—Gaga did what Katy couldn’t. And that’s not just an opinion; it’s an objective reality based on the sheer quality of Mayhem versus 143 (or 1432, or whatever revision number we’re on now). When I first listened to 143, I didn’t even care about who produced it—the music itself told me everything I needed to know. And unfortunately, what it told me was that AI could’ve done a better job.

What makes an album bad? It’s not just a matter of taste. Bad songwriting. Bad creative choices. Bad production. Bad execution. A complete lack of risk. 143 doesn’t just sound dated—it sounds like a desperate attempt to recapture something that’s long gone, and in doing so, it fails to live up to literally anything happening in music right now. If nostalgia is the goal, then it’s a cheap kind of nostalgia—the kind that remembers the past but learns nothing from it.

That said, if people enjoy the album, that’s fine. Liking something doesn’t mean it’s good. I can acknowledge when I enjoy a guilty pleasure song while still admitting it’s objectively trash. And in this case? 143 is just bad. A flat attempt at reliving 2010s pop glory with none of the magic that made it work back then.

So yeah, I respect your subjective take, but let’s not pretend this album is anything more than what it is: a commercial product running on fumes, trying to ride the wave of nostalgia that Mayhem executed flawlessly. Gaga evolved. Katy regressed. That’s the difference.

And I mean… we all know about the nachos.

Where are people getting that I said this album was good :bear:

The most complimentary thing I said about it was that it's overhated as far as warmed up leftovers go and that one song is pretty ok :bear:

I never said you thought the album was good. But if the best compliment you can give it is that one song is ‘pretty ok’ and the rest is ‘warmed-up leftovers,’ then you’ve kind of made my point for me. I, for one, don’t hate the album—I just have no desire to ever listen to it again. 😌

I disagree with most of your horrible Katy criticism

the only objective reason to dislike Katy’s new album is cause Dr Luke produced it and that’s the very ironic thing cause Cirkut produced a lot on Mayhem and you know who Cirkut is?

The producer of TEENAGE DREAM :kry: if only Katy would have worked with anyone except Dr Luke the snow ball wouldn’t have started :saladga:

What songs did Cirkut do on Mayhem?

"Walter has written and produced the Billboard Hot 100-number one singles "Part of Me", "Roar" and "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry, "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus, "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 and "Starboy" and "Die for You (Remix)" by the Weeknd."

Its more simple than that.

Katy can sing. She's a singer. End kf list.

Gaga can sing & write lyrics and music. And that's the key difference.

Gaga is a lover of music, with a deep well of inspiration she regularly pulls from that diversifies her output.

I'm sure Katy can name inspirations, but its beyond clear she's pulling from a very narrow pool of Top 40 music from a specific era.

Every MPG who has stayed the course (Beyoncé, Madonna, Kylie, Gaga) all are able to delve deep into a large pool of musical influences. Katy just doesn't have that for me.

I think she does but she doesn’t believe in tapping it. One of the Boys felt genuine! I think she just is so determined to be on top again and can’t just let herself make music she’d actually want to make. She cares more about popularity than artistry atp

The other one was Max Martin. She basically picked the worst of the 3 guys to help on this album for some reason

irst, this album is so overhated and the poor quality is completely blown out of proportion.

And what if i said it actually isn't hated enough and there needs to be a big discussion about what any other artist of Katy's caliber dropping an album like that would look like. Most of the defenses of the album's poor quality I see are "well I mean it's Katy Perry". Well why should Katy Perry get a pass for dropping one of the worst mainstream pop albums of the decade so far but nobody else would?
