Why did Trudeau step down. Are there term limits?

No term limits, but he ended up being too unpopular so he left for the good of the party in a re-election year.

No term limits officially.

But unofficially few Prime Ministers manage to last longer than 9 or 10 years as people tire of them and get upset at issues they werent able to fix and this is what happened now with Trudeau (ironically his father Pierre Trudeau was one of the few exeptions and he lasted over a decade)

Trudeau is on 9 years now which is the typical expiration for a PM so this is not surprising. His approval ratings have plummeted to levels so low that if he didnt step down his party was nearly guaranteed to be obliterated next election

In fact, Liberals probably wouldnt even win 2nd as official opposition. The left wing NDP were forecast to possibly win more seats than the Liberals which is rare at least Federally

Trudeau innitially resisted but his own party started to Pressure him. When he fired Crystia Freeland (her photo above) she made noise which was the final nail in the coffin and forced his hand essentially.

A politician who actually stepped down on time to try and benefit the party?

I’m again angered by the fact Biden needed to step down in 2023 and we might have had a normal election.

Well he didn’t have too many options left. He forced out Chrystia Freeland to a new position and then she quit. She had been by his side this whole time. He had no support anymore and everyone was calling for his resignation. He shot himself in the foot and dug his own grave.

I think Crystia appears to be an emphathetic person (despite also lowkey being an oppurtunist). I think she has the best interests of Canadians at heart but shes been so nit tight with Trudeau for so long its hard to tell what exactly shed to differently

Mark Carney personality wise is more flat. Sounds like an old banker (which he literally was) and his weakness may be in motivating and energizing voters.

That said policy wise hes very balanced i think. His background of economics really shows when he talks about policy and wanting to increase productity and business investment which has been so poor under Trudeau

That said hes not as right wing as the Conservatives and acknowledges its not just statistics in economic growth and business and that the little guy needs to see benefits too

I think hes a halfway between peoples needs and business needs. Typical Centrist

That may not appeal to everyone but imo Canada needs to try and be a little more business friendly if anything because the USA went crazy on tax cuts for businesses and now we have to compete with that. Its not an ideal situation but its the reality weve been given and we have to work with it now
