There have been many rumors on the stylistic direction of R9,the fan name given to the long-awaited record. A reggae album was buzzed about in 2018, though she’s quick to debunk this: “Way off! There’s no genre now. That’s why I waited. Every time, I was just like, ‘No, it’s not me. It’s not right. It’s not matching my growth. It’s not matching my evolution. I can’t do this. I can’t stand by this. I can’t perform this for a year on tour.’ After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. Mhhm, sounds a bit like she/her team/label are trying too hard to play catch-up with the current trends and aren’t confident enough to carve their own niche again and accept they could fail. Who knows. I always liked her music, she has a great voice and live presence, but she’s never been necessarily musically interesting, so might as well do as she says and wait another 2-8 years 😅

Oh, the album will be awful 100% . This idea of waiting forever "to find the right sound", absolutely never works. 

By the time she actually releases anything, nothing she could possibly put out will live up to the expectations. I don't judge her though, she is rich, and has a family, she doesn't *need* to be doing any of this, her bills are paid, I'm not sure if I would give a damn either if I was in her position .

I think part of the problem is that she never found her own sound until Anti, like she usually hopped on whatever trend was going at the time be it hip hop or edm, genuinely think she just released albums yearly so her contract finished quickly cos she was done with the music industry
