CHILE each time I hear a new song there are loads of parts I don't understand, isn't that normal? Those familiar with Kendrick's songs probably understood him just fine, and even I as a non native english speaker understood quite a lot of his rapping, even though I never heard any of his songs before. So stop complaining, it's simply embarrassing. It’s a big deal in the rapping community to clearly enunciate your words. You don’t NEED to in order to rap, but it’s massively celebrated when you can. And yet, if you are not familiar with the actual words being spoken, or in this case, "rapped", you will likely not get all of them. Especially when mixed with music. Sure, those who enunciate words clearly enough for them to be eligible to people is a highly praised skill, but even spoken dialogue in movies, TV shows and in theatre is often being misheard. So no matter what, even if the Rapper has a clear enunciation, people will either mishear or not understand more or less of it, if they are not familiar with the actual lyrics. And the faster words are spoken, sung or rapped, the worse it gets. It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead.
princedeeblebleble 1,716
I wish I could get into rap/hophop, but I find literal shouting and growling in metal music more melodic and listenable than this
StrawberryBlond 14,873
It's fine for what it was, but I can't pretend to be a big fan of Kendrick. His music has always been too pretentious for me and his voice isn't the best. I haven't listened to any of his albums since Damn and I've been more interested in the actual feud with Drake than the actual music that came of it. As such, I didn't know any of his new tracks apart from Not Like Us. I thought the show was going to be more controversial than it turned out to be, it wasn't as Drake focused as I assumed. He definitely could've sung some of his older hits, the only one I recognised was Humble. It was definitely a show focused on his newer work and aimed at those who have just discovered him post-Mr Morale/Drake. But I think we needed a bit of a shake-up after so many pop shows. Yes, I prefer a pop girl but you have to realise that we've had so many of them for so long now, we really needed a major change. The majority of the stadium are male football fans and want something their culture can get behind. It doesn't make sense to have a girly popstar every year, just as it wouldn't make sense to have the entire MTVs or Grammys be rap focused. 13 hours ago, Sepsami said: As a non-hiphop fan and a european, I could not get through this Kendrick performance. It bores me and I barely know who he is to be honest Rap just ain't for me. I have tried to understand the hype surrounding it so many times but I guess it's just something that passes me by completely? I understand it's about the lyrics, but so much of it doesn't even sound good? SO what is the point then, is it arhythmic poetry? You should really look into classic 90's rap. Almost all my favourite rap music is from the golden age of rap. In my opinion, rap was never the same after that. Back then, raps were genuine pieces of street poetry, about far more than superficial topics like money and hoes, it was very artistic, telling stories that were sometimes terrifying, sometimes heartbreaking. No one mumbled, it came across clear, it wasn't wrapped up in niche slang or made no sense. It's sad that so many people are basing their opinion of rap on the current artists. 90's/early 00's rap is where it's at, as far as I'm concerned. 5 hours ago, lastpopicon said: also, give Doja the next Superbowl and she'll show this boy how it's done The only songs the public at large know of from Doja are Say So, Kiss Me More and Paint The Town Red and you'd have to be into chart music to know even that. I think she's also not been around long enough. After the SB made a huge mistake in giving Bruno the gig far too early (he only had 2 albums out, no Uptown Funk yet and he hadn't become the icon he is now), they really want to make sure an artist isn't just a passing trend. Gaga had to wait until she was 5 albums in before she got the chance. It's not just about who can put on a good show but about who's iconic and had longevity enough that the audience will know their songs. We can't have pop girls every year, it isn't even the main demographic for the SB.
Guest
One of the best shows in recent SB history imo. Culturally so relevant and important

Oo, that was mostly a joke I LOVE Kendrick, my criticism doesn't come from a place of hate, it's just I think he can do better (In my opinion) and I think it's not surprising that someone who stans gaga would prefer a more spectacular show done by a pop girl they work the most and they deserve the spot See any of the Doja shows, that girl can own a stage I also think the song selection was not good, so many timeless classics he left out, would love to hear money trees ps: To pimp a butterfly is not only one of my fav hip hop albums, but also one of my fav albums of ALL time The melody that you choose can rescue you
Roughhouse Dandy 11,566
Oh nah. After watching it again and reflecting, Kendrick really did something special with this. It may not be what a lot of people were expecting for a Superbowl performance, but there's so much packed into this I can't help but be in awe a little. He showed up and showed out. I do look forward to some more glitter and pop shenanigans in future Superbowls, but all the claps are going to Kenny for this one. There's a reason he's called the boogeyman. Diabolical 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Edited February 11 by Roughhouse Dandy This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.
