Mother of Puppies 35,927
I was a tiny bit disappointed with the 911 and Disease music video... which in itself I love, but one thing that was missing for me was dancing... (meaning "dancing with more dancers and not just Gaga alone") because I just always loved that Gaga is one of the last pop stars to have major choreography in her music videos, so u can imagine how happy I am with the Abracadabra music video Edited Thursday at 10:24 AM by Mother of Puppies THEY CALL ME LADY MOP

I despised the standard BTW, ARTPOP and Chromatica covers instantly. But unlike the other two, the Chromatica artwork has grown on me. Now I find it striking & beautiful 💗 Spoiler Shoes aside lmao Edited Thursday at 10:54 AM by NUTELLA
SHALLOW 16,045
Chromatica was my first big disappointment. Before that i had always seen Gaga pushing her artistry and trying new things. My expectations were really high after ARTPOP, whose concept was very intricate and well thought, and Joanne and ASIB, which really pushed Gaga's artistry and allowed us to see a completely different side of her. So when she released Chromatica i felt like there was no evolution and she didn't really think about the concept. In fact to this day it still doesn't make sense, and i was even more disappointed when i found out Bloodpop was the one who chose the name of the album. To me that album is not very authentic or interesting. It's just a collection of songs. However, i gotta say I've still always listened to it and when 911 MV came out, i immediately knew it was my favorite MV. For the past few years Chromatica has actually been my go to when i want to listen to something so, while i skip half of the album, i really like some songs. I just don't think it's a deep or interesting album so i just bop to it Edited Thursday at 10:57 AM by SHALLOW
Gorehound 4,186
Probably the overall aesthetic of ARTPOP (music and visuals) When she first started to unveil the ARTPOP era she began with the Inez and Vinoodh photoshoot and I was shook! (The motherboard chair, the white transparent face mask with the big Venus hair, the body grass, the prosthetic arm, the gorgeous long brunette hair, the white electrical cable dreadlocks etc, all set against a clean white background), I just loved how fresh and sophisticated the shoot looked and how good Gaga looked, compared to the kinda underwhelming and tacky Nick Knight Born This Way album shoot (still love that to tho). It just felt like a huge step up in quality and finesse, and the images just screamed high modern art gallery, avant garde fashion and experimentation and I was like omg we are in for a seriously fierce album era! Then as things played out she moved further and further away from that aesthetic into more slapdash, tacky, pink and kinda uninspired territories (The Applause video, the album cover, the VMAs, the ArtRave event, the silly TV performances like the Wizard of Oz theme etc, the ARTPOP Ball etc.) That whole initial I&V high art and fashion style just seemed completely abandoned for a more corny, kids arts and crafts, multicoloured, ultra camp….mess I guess. It all felt directionless. And I felt the music also didn’t quite live up to what was promised in many places, and I just felt it was such a shame and wasted potential. There were still great moments don’t get me wrong (the Swinefest, the Steven Klein Venus shoot and the vomit paint being true ARTPOP highlights imo), and I understand that the era was an utter disaster for her and her mental wellbeing and she did very well considering. But ye I was disappointed with it all. But ARTPOP still remains my favourite Gaga album overall and I’ve come to appreciate what she did with that era. But girl those single choices… It started out GREAT, lead single did its job but after that I was convinced her team was the driving force behind all the messiness and overexposure. They MILKED her so bad, all for profit, and the era was ruined in the process. I’d say she was a little delusional too (the baptism/ betrayal thing, male alter ego/ little girl with ice cream cone ) but I forgive her as her team was basically forcing her to make 💩 up along the way. Everything was either rushed, bloated, or underwhelming. I couldn’t believe this was the same flawless pop star of TF/M. Looking back, this was mostly her label’s fault. I’m at peace with it now and admire her ambition this era even if the result was messy. I was a kid at this time but I was very confused by the rush release of Judas, random rush release of TEOG (and simple video), WW release of YAI and finally MTN seemed like the only planned single after the lead, but it was too late. Beautiful song, now a forgotten release. Oh well, I’m excited for Mayhem and expect 5+ singles like BTW!!! Ye I feel you. I think some of the blame goes to Gaga feeling she needed to constantly top and outdo herself; go bigger, go weirder etc, during the BTW era and even more so during the ARTPOP era, and I think that became detrimental to her public image. TFM was also bombastic and weird but there was still a sophistication to it, everything was balanced and nuanced. Had she dialled it all back a little bit and focused more on quality over quantity things may have been different, cuz less is sometimes more. But I’m not complaining. She was on a full creative roll during the BTW era, and you’ve gotta admire her boundless imagination and sheer audacity. butthole 9,940
The Edge of Glory music video. She'd been upping the ante in concept & production on every release/project for literally YEARS at that point. There were leaked video production photos of these elaborate sets and notes about how epic this video was going to be. However, obviously the video we got wasn't that. This article from the day after it was released shows the story pretty well. I don't agree with the all the opinions in it, but the info is all there. Peep the incredible Laurieann clapback tweets that people still reference. https://web.archive.org/web/20110619000818/http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/popwrap/what_went_wrong_with_gaga_edge_of_wmc2lz5GRCoX6OoFiTbr4O For reference, the video was released on June 16th, that article was posted on June 17th after the fandom meltdowns, and unfortunately Clarence Clemons passed away on June 18th. After that, obviously the tides started turning because the video sort of became post-humously deified as a beautiful tribute to him. But yeah, in the moment after I first saw the video, not knowing all that would transpire, my first thought was "what the hell is this?" Now I think it's cute and she looks stunning in it. One of her most iconic and recognizable looks imo. Edited Thursday at 11:34 AM by butthole clarifying 1

I understand, I was kinda disappointed too at that time. There were rumours that they had an undersea themed script and a big budget for TEOG, but because of creative differences it didn’t happen. And next to that, I’m very glad now that they didn’t release the music video for DWUW with R. Kelly… Knowing what he did. But at the time I was kinda disappointed because it was one of the best songs on ARTPOP. There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere

StrawberryBlond 14,310
The Fame Kills tour being cancelled. It was just America anyway, Gaga certainly didn't need the money and after all the nonsense with Kanye, Gaga didn't need another scandalous name associated with her. The DWUW music video not being released. For sure it would've been another big viewed and liked video but it would've become her most disliked, even at the time. And after everything that's come out about R Kelly, I'm also glad that she removed any trace of this song from her discography. Still like the song, but that video would've been a scandal and a half and would have really tainted Gaga's reputation. TIHTY not winning the Oscar. Loved the message but the song was just ok and it was pretty much completed when Gaga came along and added to it and that would probably have all come out after she won it, so it would've been very bittersweet. Winning her first Oscar for Shallow was GLORIOUS. Chromatica as a whole. One of her my least favourite albums of hers but over time, it's really not that bad and I do like a lot of its remixes. DWAS as a song and its inclusion on the album. I still think it's just above average but when it came through as a mega hit and came in to save the day when Disease didn't work out, make up for JFAD flopping, and get the era off to a good start, thank God.
