Tesla faces call for boycott in Poland

A Polish government minister called for a boycott of Tesla Inc. vehicles after billionaire Elon Musk said there was “too much focus on past guilt” in an apparent reference to Germany’s wartime atrocities under the Nazis.

The Tesla chief executive made a surprise appearance via video link at a political rally for Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party on Saturday said: “Children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents,” Musk told the audience.

The comments over the weekend particularly touched a nerve in Poland as world leaders commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. Some 6 million Poles — half of them Jews — died after German troops invaded the country after 1939.

“Maybe Mr. Musk with his billions doesn’t feel threatened,” Sports Minister Slawomir Nitras said. “But every normal person living in the center of Europe, who remembers what happened 80 years ago, cannot look on indifferently.”

“All I can say is that probably no normal Pole should buy a Tesla anymore,” said Nitras, a senior figure in the ruling Civic Platform party of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

I’m so glad Poland is really on the ball with calling all this sh out. The fact that everyone else seems to be dancing around the point as they watch the world slide ever more into fascism is infuriating

Looking down at my $t loser misery

Poland knows what's up. In their country there are a lot of things to remind them of what happened and not forget history and not let it happen again. How ****ing crazy that in 2025 we are witnessing the rise of nazis again, the people that (some of) our ancestors fought against so that they'd never be in power again.

Bonkers

You know what pisses me off is all the times the world uses "NEVER AGAIN" or "NEVER FORGET" after atrocities.

Germany has been very successful at raising generations of non-nazi's and now they're likely going to backtrack on what was learned.

How's Israel doing with "Never Again"?

How are things after Sept 11th?  Or did Saudi Arabia just by up the US government and platforms that influence the population.

Humans don't learn.

I went last year on a whim and traveled round the country and I LOVED Poland! It's one of my favorite places I've visited and I tell everyone now that Poland is a gem!

Ppl got short ass memories. And after some decades passes by the younger generation that wasnt around yet takes the lessons as "lecturing from the elderly and old school thinking"

With attitudes like those, were doomed to always learn from mistakes for a few decades but then eventually just repeat them :deadbanana:
