I Lurked Industrial Community Online, And This Is What I Found

A little bit of foreword;

As we know, LG7 is likely going to be Industrial inspired album, and started to be marketed as such.

Exhibit 1:

https://djmag.com/news/lady-gagas-new-album-inspired-industrial-dance-music-features-gesaffelstein

So I am curious, how does the Industrial community approach to this news?

And what I find is that:

- Early reception tends to be lukewarm. Most are welcoming, (acknowledging that she is very talented pop stars, unlike most others), and knowing she had been flirted with the genre before, mainly with songs on BTW album, and wnjoued Disease as the preview of it,  but some, who seemed to be elitists, are really against it. Mainly because many other pop stars who did this before really failed at it and ends in disappointment.

- Some are on the fence, since they are not 100% sure she will make deep industrial album, but just using the genre as "seasoning" for it. Especially there are no huge names in Industrial that been mentioned to work with her for this album.

- Still related to the last point, Gessafeltein is named. But most thinking that although he is having some good music, he is barely industrial.

- Some big and names who are legit Industrial figures that were thrown around that would seem to help them to support this better includes; Johan Von Roy, Rhys Fulber, Uncle Al, and Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails)

- About Trent Reznor, some people jokes that it will be awesome if that happened, especially since he didn't get along with Madonna

- The threshold for "pop stars trying industrial" album seems to be David Bowie's Outside. (Which is, surprise surprise, produced by Trent Reznor.), As it is mentioned many times during the discussion. Saying if Gaga can at least reach that kind of artistic direction for LG7, it will be appreciated for the effort by them.

So, what do you think? Will Gaga add more enemy with this alboom? (Hope not, cos the last thing we need is more people hating her), Or will she win their good will? The stakes is high with this one. :flower:

I mean, LG7 is just gonna be what every other Gaga album is: pop with a little bit of other genres sprinkled on top. So...

These people are correct :vegas: but hopefully they can still enjoy their music being woven into the mainstream music in some way. And if not, that's cool too :music:

They are the same people who still debates if Rhythm Nation is industrial or not :laughga:

I mean, I personally hope that LG7 is industrial pop because I listen to industrial music a lot. In fact, electro-industrial music is kind of synth-pop to me in general if you dig deeper. I have a feeling that industrial-inspired music is going to be a big trend in the future.

People tend to have such a high-brow, restrictive approach to music… One genre may never f*ck with another genre, mainstream is the devil, etc. FFS this is MUSIC. It‘s about conveying emotions, not thinking in labels and barriers and what‘s allowed or not.:saladga:

Gaga has always played with different genres and infused underground into the mainstream. Thank God for that!!!

Oh thank God. When there were rumours about her going industrial, some people here mentioned Gesaffelstein and I decided to listen to his discography, spent the whole time wondering when the industrial part was supposed to start.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't trust anything after Chromatica. She can be rumored to work with the most promising producers and still give the most tepid "house" album with watery sprinklings of their influences, if any.

The names on this don't mean shít.

Gesaffelstein's nickname in France is "Le prince noir de la techno française" which mean "The black prince of French techno". I think he's defo more experimental techno oriented but sometimes he explores aggressive sounds that we associate to industrial or rock. :staymad:

I think that there's some chances that there's a collab with Trent Reznor which is clearly more industrial.

Have anyone else here, have seen this video of Gaga's pianist, this has nothing to do with LG7 but he talks about Muse, Radiohead and Trent Reznor :

To me "Disease" is an electro track with a splash of industrial, rage, techno and goth. It's an experimental song. Not the most quirky underground song ever that will immediately convince elitists that she's going full underground... But it's still an experimental song. :ohwell:
