Depends on what you consume. I get videos that are multiple minutes in length including world news, interviews, news clips, research developments, etc. along with other fun videos pertaining to pop culture, cooking, animals, hobbies. And that’s not my only source of information.

It’s like saying “let’s ban tv in general bc cocomelon is bad for kids.”

I get what you’re saying but that could go for any media. That should be up to parents to decide what their children and teens consume.
TikTok can be used responsibly…it’s not ONLY brain rotting videos, trends, and dances.

Yes I am sure 8-13 year olds will use it responsibly. And no, parents are not going to supervise that. It is not realistic, and you know that if you are a parent.

1) Moderation. Knowing when to put their phones down and stop blinding themselves with blue light and rapid consumption of entertainment, outrage bait, or whatever else they can find there.

I agree, but the issue with these apps is that they are designed to be addictive at this point.

They're designed to lock people into endless scrolling & engagement. Same trick as online gambling & gacha games

Find a way to parent your kids effectively, and quit expecting the world to conform to how you WANT to raise your kids! It's not realistic to expect no kids to ever drink, so will we have another prohibition? It's not realistic to think no kid will consume media outside their targeted age group, so will we get rid of Rated R films?

You can raise kids without smartphones. You can set limits to screentime. You can restrict apps on phones. You can connect your kids to more natural dopamine not from social media. I'm sorry this is such a weak excuse.

I am a parent. Why does an 8-13 year old even have a smartphone? And if you’re giving them a smartphone, there are parental restrictions, and also ways to parent that can prevent what you are so worried about.

You’re making excuses for parents who aren’t parenting.

Ayesha Erotica

The ban is kinda racist towards Chinese and American institutions once again show their racism.

Facebook/instagram are lobbying for the Tiktok ban to themselves gain market shares.

FB/IG had negative influence on youth long before tiktok was there, and without tiktok, FB/IG will regain their monopoly. At least, TikTok is more fun than lame FB/IG. Who will ban FB/IG? Nobody, because as long as an American company is destroying youth, it's alright, ok but if it's China it's a problem

I hope China will punish Zuckerberg

Now SCOTUS will decide about Tiktok's future
