Jay-Z's cannabis brand Monogram appears to be in trouble, with punters loathe to pay $50 for one of his luxury joints and the business losing half a billion dollars since it was launched to great fanfare in 2020.

Jay-Z’s cannabis brand looked timeless as soon as it launched. The billionaire rapper, legal name Shawn Carter, rolled out his Monogram line of luxury joints and cannabis flower with a photo shoot at the famous Frank Sinatra house in Palm Springs. Models elegantly smoked joints in front of mid-century pool furniture, as if the brand had been around for decades. Glowing profiles in GQ, Vogue and Vanity Fair soon followed.

Four years later, it looks like this splashy celebrity cannabis brand has already disappeared. 

Monogram’s website lists nine retailers where it says its products are for sale — eight in California and one in Arizona — but none include the brand’s products on their online menus. The parent company behind Monogram, confusingly called The Parent Company, hasn’t fared any better. The conglomerate originally hit California’s market with $575 million in cash and plans to take over the entire industry, but after burning through half a billion dollars, it has merged into another company, which itself appears to be in financial trouble. Jay-Z was once named as the chief visionary officer for The Parent Company

honestly I’m all for celebrities’ businesses flopping. 

I don’t need Lady Gaga selling me lipsticks, I don’t want alcohol from Brad Pitt or Beyonce, etc. Those people are already greatly successful in their fields.

Trying to make cash by using their connections and face recognition is shady. Let other people succeed. Don’t be greedy.

I didn’t even know this existed. I thought he was part owner of Caliva, that sells their own line of weed plus is a storefront/delivery. So $50 for one single joint or for a pack of joints?
 

I have only ever tried the Jerry Garcia brand of weed. The gummies are delicious and guitar pick shaped. 
 

I did buy the Justin Bieber “Peaches” joints that came with a lighter.

I think that all dispensary weed is so tasty, strong, and genetically well-engineered today that there's no demand for weed that is more "luxury" than other weed. All dispensary weed is exceptionally high quality and there's no way for Jay Z's brand to differentiate themselves and justify their higher prices. Basically, what I'm saying is there is not really such a thing as luxury weed lol. Maybe he should have just focused on luxury weed accessories, the tactical joint case kinda slays tbh
