LateToCult 41,897
A former Trump administration official thinks Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) could make a formidable candidate for president, warning Republicans not to underestimate her. … “However,” she continued, “just a word of warning to the Republicans, to my party: Do not underestimate AOC. She’s young, she’s vibrant, she’s attractive. I think she’s wrong on everything, but she does have real grassroots support, and all of the energy and activism in the Democratic Party remains with the revolutionary left, of which she is a part.” “So,” Crowley concluded, “every time the Republicans have underestimated the Democrats, we ended up with Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. So, let’s not do it again in four years.” full: https://www.thedailybeast.com/ex-trump-official-monica-crowley-warns-do-not-underestimate-aoc-in-2028/ Matty also adding his two cents for some odd reason: My personal opinion is that she’s not interested in 2028. However for some reason the right has decided to treat her like a real threat. Perhaps just trying to start the mud slinging early for when the NY Senate seat is open. Still, I think it’s interesting.
bionic 50,111
Most Republican candidates would beat her in a nationwide election. I don't think they need to be worried. It sounds like they're doing their 2028 electioneering smearing early like they did immediately after Trump won in 2016
Bronco 25,399
I agree with you about the mud slinging. I think she's far more likely to take a shot at Senate before she swings for the Presidency. But equally, I think the idea AOC would be a domineering candidate in 2028 seems wide of the mark. She's definitely lost a degree of that Bernie or Bust fanbase she had due to her self moderating and playing to the party instead of "the squad" in recent times The gays know how to party

PartySick 172,685
She won't run and she won't win. Leftists belong in congress where they can write and pass the laws. The president needs to be a liberal/centrist at worst. Edit: This said, I would enthusiastically vote for her and I think it's well past time for her to take Bernie's spot as the voice of the left. She's far more rational than he is. Whimsical bitch
dit 46,738
it's too soon for AOC I think. First, she codes as VERY young and a lot of ppl wont take her seriously sadly Second, the dems lost with two women nominees, they are not going to consider pushing another woman as their candidate for a long while (sadly). Thirdly, I dont want AOC to waste her shot at running. It's guaranteed any woman who runs in 2028 will lose imo and the dems do indeed have a young man issue. They need a populist man for 2028 imo. AOC is only in her mid 30s...she has A LOT of time to build credentials and when she is in her mid 40s she can run and probably have a real shot at winning. Candidates usually only run once or twice if they fail once. I dont want her to waste her shot.
AnglerfishbraBENUS 5,734
i don’t really know who could win. The current republican party is basically center right. the democrats have been getting more and more left. The democrats need a moderate type of energy. Joe Biden is center/left, the modern GOP is very much far right. I think any Midwest male Democratic senator that survived a post-2016 election could run and win against Republicans' pick in 2028 by adopting the same position on the left/right spectrum as Joe Biden. Remember what motivates different voter bases. Democratic and independent voters are largely moved by policies they agree with while Republicans are moved more so by feelings and their perception of reality. Copy+paste Biden's 2020 campaign to 2028 and it's a slam dunk. That's exactly where we should be right now. Whimsical bitch
REALITY 80,175
I feel like I’m crazy because why are y’all like “We need a centrist Dem to win”?? Girl, Kamala’s whole campaign towards the end was about embracing moderate Republicans and she lost. Her campaign was at its best and most energetic when she looked like she was pushing more progressive policies. Trump has only gotten more extreme and vitriolic and he WON. I’m not saying that AOC would win, but I think Dems desperately need their “version” of Trump. Bernie was that for a bit, but he was pushed out by the centrist Dems. Kamala's loss comes at a time where incumbency is an enormous weakness. The fact that she only lost by less than 2% is a testament to how good of a campaign she ran. Also, Trump has gotten worse and it translated into him getting fewer votes this year than he did in 2020. Do you know the only thing that polled as less popular than Project 2025 for voters this year? Socialism Bernie, the self titled socialist, couldn't even win a primary where only Democrats are voting. He would have never stood a chance in a general election and the first thing he did after Trump won was throw mud on Democrats despite the fact that he has to rely on Democrats' relevancy and power to have a legislative voice period. As I said, his place, along with other leftists, is in congress where they can push progressive legislation and controls the national budget. The president needs to be a true moderate (so, about as far left as Biden which is already pretty progressive thanks to people like AOC pushing his policies there). I also can't lie, I'm basing this on how unreliable leftist voters are. Politicians will always go where the votes are and if the left organized and moved out instead of protesting the candidates their ideals more closely align with maybe they'd be a reliable block of people to cater to. But they're not so Kamala had to chase centrists and pray enough Republicans defected. The fact that leftists and even Democratic voters didn't turn up to beat Trump is more of a failing on their part, not Kamala's tbh. So yeah, I guess they want the wars to end but their solution is to let the genocidal dictators win no matter the human cost. And this is to say nothing of their domestic policies which are all fascistic and harmful. Whimsical bitch
