"Venus" and "Gypsy" were safer options and she went for "Applause" (legend has it: her desired lead was "Aura"). "Rain On Me" and "Plastic Doll" were safer and she went for "Stupid Love". It being the lead... really means nothing, she doesn't always releases the catchiest song as the lead. Would be very interesting if it was indeed the most "accesible" song on the album though. Would make me very curious about the rest of the songs Venus? safe? imo it was one of the more experimental sounds and lyrics on the album... "uranus, don't you know my ass is famous?" Applause was by far the most commercial song. The melody was instantly catchy and super radio-friendly Stop the music, Start the drama. 4

Surely as long as we like it, that's all that matters? Like, Gaga isn't going to starve to death or struggle to pay rent if a song doesn't doesn't go to #1 We want Gaga to be THE moment like she was in 2009-2013

I also agree Applause is more radio friendly and has been used at sport games and events.
OMonster 14,664
Ahhh. Honestly, the way this is just quintessential Gaga makes me so happy and kind of proud in an admittedly very parasocial way It's like she's finally found a way back to herself. I also feel quite emotional about the almost universal love from fans. This is what this fanbase has been wanting from her for such a long time. The wait was worth it. subtext / fantasy

OMonster 14,664
I also love btw that the MV isn't out yet. It gives me the old-school Gaga that believed in and loved her work so much that she wanted both the song and the video to have their own moment and be enjoyed and appreciated separately. subtext / fantasy 5 2
