FFXIV WhiteMage 6,316
Definitely the parents’ fault. These type of dangerous allergies or any grave sicknesses should always be communicated to airline staff prior to boarding or even booking a ticket. (Specifically name this airline cos it seems to be bare minimum of budget flights in Europe that receives a lot of bad press) ryanair isn't actually too bad if you have realistic expectations. if you're paying £15 for a flight it's not going to be luxurious Availability is not weakness

He once ate pie at a family Thanksgiving dinner that had a little bit of peanuts and they had to call the ambulance. Pretty scary. I assume peanut dust from chewing peanuts can be airborne and potentially be inhaled by the daughter. Did the family have a heavy mask for the child or any other sort of protection? Did the airline they rebooked with provide the disclaimer? The airline could have just made a simple announcement but I understand they are not required to, especially if they have a 48 hour notice policy. I guess the allergy goes way further than just by eating it. My sister is a teacher and she has a kid in school that is also allergic to peanuts and its not about her eating it, if you eat peanuts in the morning and you talk to her in the afternoon without properly cleaning your mouth she gets a reaction. If you touch peanuts and then touch something (pens, books, whatever) and she touches it even if time has passed she gets a reaction. I tht peanut allergy reacts when the allergic person eats it it There’s certain ones where it’s even if it’s circulating in the air. HelloHangoverz 17,452
Bunch of Karens. You can't Chinese whispers your child's allergy information to a group of strangers, cross your fingers and call yourself a good parent. Call ahead of time. If you "can't get through" (which I find very hard to believe) then you can't fly. There are probably a thousand reasonable reasons why these kind of announcements can't be made willy nilly Availability is not weakness

I gained new perspective today. Good points: call ahead. That is the smartest, fairest thing to do. Forums. Imagine if we all could go up to the flight crew and ask for special request being communicated over the intercom... because, what's next...? I agree with you, they definitely should’ve put in the work and notified the airline beforehand - it’s the passenger’s responsibility. I just think in this case, since the adverse reaction of not sharing the information could be death, a simple announcement would’ve been appreciated. I don’t think the airline necessarily “had” to do it, but it was easy and would’ve been nice, you know? If you can help someone out with minimal energy expenditure, it makes the world a bit of a better place.
