  • Ladle Ghoulash changed the title to St. Vincent - All Born Screaming OUT NOW
King of the Fall

Album is even stronger than I was anticipating which is saying a lot because the singles had me hyped

I have only had two listens so far but it is already in her top three for me. Strange Mercy, Self Titled and All Born Screaming

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

i love the album mostly but the sophie lines are wayyyyyy outta line im in disbelief

i know she meant well but she shouldn't have glamorized specifically how she died like that it just feels disrespectful as hell.

I get it but also.... who are we to judge how sophie's friend speak about her? Caroline Polachek got the same reaction over the "look over the edge but not too far" line. I get it, it doesn't sound nice and I don't like it either but I think it's weird to call it disrespectful when they knew her on a personal level and we didn't

Except she wasnt her friend, she never even met her.

Speaking to Rolling Stone UK, St. Vincent said she never met the critically-acclaimed musician, but was so “moved” by her work that the soon-to-be-released song ‘Sweetest Fruit’ on her new LP All Born Screaming was in part inspired by her.

“I didn’t set out to write this tribute in the same way I never set out to write anything you know?,” she explained. “It just sort of comes. But that song was the extended product of a jam session and I loved that we could make a song around that.

“I read about the circumstances of her death and it was so tragic, but this idea that she was an artist who was always reaching for new things and taking risks, right? And this idea that she was just trying to get a better look at the moon. That moved me because there are a lot of us in human history, people looking for something on the outer reaches.”

St Vincent and Sophie had the exact same relationship as Sophie and her fans like you and I, they never met, never spoke, she only admired Sophie from a distance so it's absolutely okay to criticize her for the weird as all hell lyrics

Liking it so far! Think I'll need a bit more time with it, the singles were more upbeat than the rest mostly, but Reckless is rlly good!

Strange Mercy and her self-titled are phenomenal as well and absolutely worth a listen.

i'll definitely give her a shot, i've only heard Daddy's Home (which confused me ngl lol) and the singles from Masseduction, but i'm very excited to get into her stuff now after this album!

Faves: Flea, Hell Is Near, Reckless, Broken Man, All Born Screaming
Least fav: The Power’s Out, So Many Planets

Honorable mention to Sweetest Fruit

Power’s Out, imo, is so hopeleslly derivative of Bowie’s “Five Years” that I’m honestly shocked it made the cut

Finally got to listen to this and oh wow... what a great album

Violent Times and All Born Screaming are probably my favorites on first listen but the album as a whole is great. The only song I didn't care for is So Many Planets.

I was worried about Sweetest Fruit but it's a bop ngl :air:

Talent won this week
