This question was asked years ago here on GagaDaily, for the countess at first and then I asked the same question for A Star Is Born later:

Do you manage to dissociate Gaga from her roles?

Generally, no. In every project Gaga's been in so far, I still see glimpses of her and I'm not fully able to dissociate the character from her. I think it's because I've been following her for so long, so it's difficult to suspend disbelief. That said, the Joker trailer was the first time I've fully been able to believe and feel that Gaga is playing a character on-screen. I think she's really immersed herself in the role and I'm super excited to see how it all turns out.

That's my unfairness regarding Gaga, and it's my problem, I mean can't compare the time I spend looking at her work and interviews to anyone. For instance I know nothing regarding Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Ema Stone, etc. So to me it's very easy to take their performances, for what they are, and don't think about them... I'm only going to notice something if the character it's very similar to something they did before. 

When I'm looking at Gaga in a movie subconsciously I'm always trying to find her, so how am i going to be fair lol. 

But the thing is, to this day she always sold me the different characters she played. I suspect that with time and more movies it's going to be more easy do separate her from her characters.

Strangely, the only role where I manage to not see Gaga is with the Countess (even if she looks just like her when she's just Gaga). Maybe because she was a killer vampire? I dont know

No. And it's not anything she's doing, she really does 'fit' into all her roles really well. 

It's just kind of like if my sister was in a movie I think. I can never quite unsee her.

I can for AHS, most of Gucci, and then so far everything I’ve seen of Joker. ASIB I only saw Gaga. I think it was probably one of the reasons it was so hard to not ship them in real life because it almost seemed like them as real people and not characters.

Tbh every role I've seen her in, I instantly hear her voice explaining getting into the mind frame of the character and dying her hair and speaking with an Italian accent for a year and looking for evidence and the cursed flies and I've been a Jazz singer since I was 13 etc etc etc

A Star Is Born is the only role I've been able to disassociate her from herself. Kinda snapped back to reality using the Joanne World Tour stage and nose meme parts tho.
