Highly doubt it, rating systems are wildly different from one country to the next. Don’t know about Italy, but in France the first Joker was forbidden for people under 12.

Generally speaking, European countries tend to have a less strict system of rating. Europeans ain't puritans like American('s government).:awesome:

I mean, there are so many R-rated films in America that are literally accessible to everyone here…. Like, we have 0 restriction when it comes to cursing. And a sex scene would need to be really extra raunchy to warrant any sort of audience restriction. There’s also some sort of common sense in the idea that kids would not be interested in certain movies in the first place, so why even put a target on those films.

To this day I can’t quite wrap my head around the fact most Sofia Coppola films are rated-R…… while so many films normalizing people shooting each other up get a nice lil PG-13.

I saw them post this, but I don't know what to make of it. It says that it's according to Warner Bros. Italy. Do rating systems work differently there? I'm usually not a stickler for ratings because as long as the movie is good, I think the age rating is kind of irrelevant, but I hope that it's still rated R. I want the movie to keep the same tone and style as the first one.

Even Joker was 14+ in Italy, it depends on the country, these are the ratings of Joker in the major countries:

I totally agree with you. Also, Europeans rating offices distinguish between different kind of nudes (e.g. for artistic purpose or for sexual content), while Americans' office seems to go crazy as they see a penis (that, also, in US movies usually is a fake prosthesis). I'm still laughing (and both crying) thinking to that teacher (from Florida, of course jajaja) fired because Michelangelo's David was considered ****ography (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/30/florida-principal-david-statue-visits-florence).

Anyone else here who can't handle blood and is hoping that it really is a PG film? :awkney: Because it's going to be so sad to watch her do a whole press tour for a film I'll never watch...

(Of course I support her, and don't expect her or anyone else to limit themselves just because I'm a bit of a baby)

the first movie was rated R and is famously known as the first R rated movie to make a billion dollars. there are now rumors on twitter that the just released poster has 14+ on it in some countries, suggesting the movie could be rated PG-13 in the U.S.

this would be HUGE for the box office numbers, as millions of more people would be able to buy a ticket and be #seated for our queen

a movie being rated R in the US doesnt mean its going to be +18 in other countries. Joker 1 was +15 in Colombia, for example.

I dont remember the first one being specifically gory?? except the subway scene and the tv show scene, I dont remember the movie having that much blood.

I could be wrong tho

I mean… in most american tv shows and movies womens breasts are always covered and so on. Here in spain its normal to watch a tv show or a movie with that kind of nudity, maybe because people are topless in the beach and we are used to it. Also you can go to a supermarket here and have WAP uncensored playing and no one will care about it, the us is waaay more strict censoring

Good point, it's maybe not non-stop blood and violence like other films... But still, reading the IMDB parent's guide made me want to steer well clear of that film (and of the sequel if it has the same rating :smh:)

I will be disappointed if it isn’t a full on solid R rated movie in the states. I want all the violence, gore, sex, and language they can throw in with the musical aspects. Gaga has never been one to hold anything back and I hope this movie gives her the most opportunities to go as far out as she wants.

The US is a puritan nation. A PG-13 movie in Europe means rated r in America.

Yes… this is quite stupid, and also hypocritical. A society that represses sexuality over violence definitely raises some questions.
