The GP loved trashing her, and all her behavior, music, and visuals were seen as tryhard and cringy. The positivity around it today is definitely rose-tinted. I mean - simply music videos from Bangerz are superior to mv’s from TUN. Plus, it helps that Bangerz was released at the time when pop music still had more impact in general. It was controversial and people talked about it for months. Thank U Next was huge, especially the lead single/music video and sure 7 Rings was a massive hit but then she released Break Up, then the album and I don’t think anything happened after that. If you were part of Pop music Stan / Twitter then of course you were there but outside of it I don’t think it made a bigger impact than Bangerz.
