“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is headed for a record global opening for a concert film of $150 million to $200 million, including $100 million to $125 million in North America and $50 million to $75 million overseas.”

”To date, 2011’s Justin Bieber: Never Say Neverholds the record for the top-grossing concert film at the domestic box office with $73 million, not adjusted for inflation. It earned another $26 million overseas for a global total of $99 million. Michael Jackson’s 2009 posthumous documentary/concert film This Is It earned $72.1 million domestically and $181.9 million globally. After it topped the charts on its opening weekend, Sony extended the film’s two-week theatrical run for an additional three weeks domestically and one to three weeks in overseas territories.”

She has also sold out more than 4,200 showtimes “sold out” out of 13,000 showtimes or 32%. Barbie‘s first night of previews? 500. (Barbie‘s opening weekend was $162M off a first day/previews of $70.5M). All sellouts here are compared four days before each film’s first night. One of every three showtimes is sold out for Eras Concert on opening day.

King.

That's $259.3 million adjusted for 2023 dollars.

Good luck Taylor :flower:

Barbie had screenings every day of the week for $10 while Ms. Swift only has Thur-Sun for $20 so it's automatically inflating her numbers but also her weekend screenings.

If it played on daily the weekend gross would've been like $80 million. Still impressive but not the record-breaker you'd want.

OT: As I said before, Swift is NOT the global superstar Swifties make her out to be and for a movie opening to $100 million+ in the US alone, it sure as hell looks like she lacks the same appeal elsewhere. It's doing more in 1 country than the other 100 countries COMBINED :ladyhaha:

Edit: I believe they’re talking domestic box office only (meaning US only). This thread is talking about worldwide box office.

WW sales are tracking for $103-$145 million. Domestic is looking to be $90-$100 million.

That being said: take their conversations with a grain of salt. BOT isn’t a trade, it’s completely amateur box office hawks who are wrong more than right. You should only take seriously tracking figures from actual industry trades like Variety.
