I feel like people are either so naive or actively choosing to see the world through rose-tinted glasses. Then you should know better than to bring LGBTQ liberation in the mix. Unless these communities have a stable foundation to drive meaningful change, you will never see any sort of social progress. And Palestinian queers should not have to give up their ethnic or cultural identities in the process (which isn’t necessarily being said in this particular thread, but I’ve seen it way too often) in order to push for the other. How can one even talk about protection of LGBTQ people when they don’t even have consistent electricity in a normal day? Lack of medical resources? No way out? I’m not denying that the newly established gov’t in the event of a liberated Palestine would be pro-LGBTQ+ but, best case scenario, they’d have at least a fight chance of securing their rights, worst case scenario, they’re in roughly the same predicament. Fantina 3,438
Firstly, I want to say that my heart goes out to all the people who are affected by this. To any of u that live close, I really wish for a peaceful de-escalation and no more innocent lives lost. I am monitoring this thread because I feel as though it's my responsibility to stay educated and informed about what's going on in the world right now. I won't comment, but I am looking at all the facts. Free Palestine Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.

Whether or not you “understand” the frustration that lead to the Hamas attack, it should be even more obvious that it was a step in the wrong direction for the end goal of a secure Arab state in that land. Thousands more innocent people will die, and for what? The continued cycle of violence, religious intolerance, and ethnic tension that has plague this “holy land” for millennia. The reason Hamas did this is because all Muslim countries are allying with Israel, without negotiating rights for the palestinians, and Israel is gaining too much power making Palestinian situation worse. Hamas has nothing to lose at this point, to them this is better than them being forever forgotten in a concentration camp. You dont think its logical or worth it, but they think it is considering their circumstances.

This is very off topic so I’m not going to go into it, but yes, I do. Will that happen in the next 50 years? My lifetime? Who knows, probably not. But all of that means nothing when you can’t even have a place to live. There’s no way LGBTQ rights are going to progress through most of that region for that matter when there’s so much instability. Go talk to LGBTQ Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, the refugee camps, etc. Of course it matters to them, but so does their liberation and right to exist. All the people in power positions within Hamas, like any other organisation of its kind, have wealth & and an exit route to the people who fund them. But the Palestinians in Gaza & the West bank who now face a renewed assault by the IDF, likely to be the most violent and brutal one ever conducted have none of the power or wealth. And while the ring leaders of Hamas will have gotten to safety or had their Plan B exits ready and on standby since before the attack, these folks will be left stranded by the very organisation that claims to want to liberate them. You DO UNDERSTAND there are secular Palestinians right? Just as there are secular Muslims that heavily believe in not mixing politics with religion? (Literally the crux of most Islamic minority groups!!!) This is even more so apparent in the diaspora communities. Anyways, this is insanely off-topic and I’m not going to let my emotions get the best of me because this **** is very real for me, so I’m bowing out.
