StarstruckIllusion 53,565
Ohhh a blessing. The government was gonna shutdown at midnight, but hopefully not anymore! Depends on the bill and what the senate thinks The Bill: - Funds gov until November 17 - Clean bipartisan bill - Has 0 Ukraine aid - Disaster relief for the US - WH expected to support it - The Far Right Extremist Caucus is pressed The pressure has only gone down 5% basically lol

bionic 50,111
I hate to say it but I think a shutdown would've been better for the Dems when it comes to the 2024 elections

Economy 52,859
USA... the only Country in the world with a debt ceiling... Cant believe they still havent gotten rid of that thing that serves no purpose other than being used for political leverage. They must really genuinely enjoy it obviously

Better Day 5,766
Didn’t a Government shutdown happen twice under Obama as well? Together You And I!
Dennis 8,391
Unfortunately, the way Ukraine aid became insanely politicized shows that Putin was right in his calculus. He bet that the West would eventually cave and lose interest in defending Ukraine, and everyday it becomes clearer and clearer that he may be right in the end. Nonetheless, democrats had to vote for this. If they chose to shut down the government over Ukraine aid it'd be extremely bad optics.

Oh america, you silly silly super power U mean how states have votes by persons thats suppostu vote on their regions behalf and it makes popular vote kinda useless? I forget the details of how electorial colledge works But i do know to some extent the same happens in other countries, where votes arent proportional by region. Here in Canada the same happens in a way
gemein3 1,449
The Senate has to pass the same bill the House passed for the shutdown to be avoided. That hasn’t happened yet, and because of the lack of Ukraine aid, it likely won’t. No shut down has been avoided.

StarstruckIllusion 53,565
The senate has passed the bill! It’s officially passed through congress (the hard part) and Biden has already signaled support. Crisis averted ✨

Here in Canada the same happens in a way That, and also individual votes “mattering more” depending on what state you’re from. You can get rid of the EC and still keep a republic. But tbh I want this to be a celebration thread… as said above, its an atom above the bare minimum, but small wins boost morale I’ll save the champagne when Biden gets term 2, wins back congress, and some actual legislation can finally continue
