The songs were created in tandem with the movie, with most of them having specific musical/lyric cues in the story.  They definitely didn’t care if a song sounds like another album, especially FN. Sometimes I think the songs are actually supposed to sound like a combination of other popular sounds. Gerwig sent Ronson playlists of other songs she wanted them to sound like, and he helped curate and envision everything she wanted. Dance the night is supposed to be a basic big disco dance number. The soundtrack is serving its purpose in supporting the movie, not just for our consumption on streaming and charts. Maybe the specific artists will promote their songs and stuff but the creators were not trying to reinvent the wheel here and make a chart topper.

I think more people will enjoy it once they see the movie. I got most of that info from the rolling stone article that just came out talking to Ronson, Gerwig, Robbie and some of the artists. If you’re interested I definitely suggest checking it out because it sounds like the music is playing a big role in the film, more so than other movies.
