The Hate Against Lady Gaga and how the Left Keeps Shooting Itself in the Foot

This has been infuriating me for awhile, so we need to talk about this. As a leftist who is proud of their political ideology and beliefs, I am sick of how the left constantly shoots itself in the foot by attacking celebrities. Do you seriously not want support from higher up to help with issues? Do you not want a platform above yours to speak for you?

We claim to be the party of "validating others issues" but suddenly when someone speaks on something from their perspective its "stop making everything about you". Yeah, y'all wanna care about mental health but will then either invalidate or manipulate someone when they speak about something in a way you don't like.

It gets even worse when you think that people can't speak just because of who they are. "We want representation in the government", and then you trash AOC for wearing a dress that gives us that. "Women should speak up about hate", but then when Madonna and Taylor Swift do it you use misogyny to claim they just want attention. "Minorities should be who they are", then Sam Smith does that and you trash them.

Lady Gaga is supporting a company to help people with pain, but I guess y'all don't want people to get help. I couldn't walk at points due to migraines in 2016, so it definitely makes me happy to see that people are against medication that could have helped with that (sarcasm). Even if it is shady, have we forgotten "no ethical consumption under capitalism"? People will trash her for this after they spent a fortune on a Shein hall (using the same phrase as an excuse when it does NOT apply there). The entitlement is real.

I guess you guys forgot how Lady Gaga made big statements at the Chromatica Ball about how rights were being taken away in the country. I guess you guys ALSO forgot how Lady Gaga doesn't like interacting with fans closely anymore after how toxic some of you can be. An important news flash for some people on the forum, being gay doesn't make it okay for you to be misogynists. A lot of people think gays are shady because of this, and after YEARS y'all really need to stop.

The far right has so much power BECAUSE they've given support to celebrities. Have you seen how much power Elon Musk has given them? Meanwhile, we have non-problematic celebrities who aren't liabilities supporting us yet you wanna attack them any time they do something you don't like.

This is so hard seeing those comments on her insta post. She did advocate during the tour for lgbtq+ rights. I remember her saying they better not come for gay marriage in ny to the Supreme Court. She said during every shows in red state that she hopes they turn blue.

she made campaign for Biden and we all know how bad it can be career wise (ie Katy perry)

she is taking risks for us. And yes the pfizer deal is not perfect. I work in pharma and I know they find rep candidates because they are definitely better for the economy of the pharma industry. However, they fund a lot of lgbtq+ organization too… not trying to defend them at all but it’s not all bad or all good.

And I watched people walk out in Dallas when she mentioned TX going blue. And she brought it up AGAIN in Houston. Like. The proof is in the pudding if her activism were performative she wouldn’t have brought it up a second time here

I agree. I love the movement for vocalization of issues and keeping people accountable, but sometimes it's a bit much. I mean, when Lady Gaga, the lady who has LITERALLY spent her career trying to validate, fight for, and make change for the queer community is being attacked simply because she didn't mention pride this month and wanted to advertise a migraine pill, we know we have lost the plot (even typing that out seems outrageous). Like I do understand feeling confused or disappointed that she doesn't, but the extremeness that the left tends to have is too much.

Someone can do something differently than how you think is right, and it doesn't make them bad/need to be publicly ridiculed into compliance to your standard of right or wrong. ESPECIALLY when it is someone who has done WAY more for the community than just random tweets. 

Everyone loves being on their moral high horse and clamoring to attack anyone who slips up so they can feel morally superior. It's very unhealthy and counterproductive.

When you think about her dropping a super fancy Target deal cause they were funding anti-queer organisms... It's really weird to know she now works with a company funding politicians pushing anti-queer laws.

Maybe I'm a delulu stan making excuses for her but seeing her many years of loud activism it makes me think she didn't know about these...

Now tbh she 100% should make sure who she talk to before to become their ambassador. It's not like the infos weren't a few clicks away.

Gaga doesn't want to interact with the world in any way through social media. Why is this so hard for people to swallow? That's why all her posts are only about projects, appearances or advertisements she has to post about. She wants to focus on her personal life and her art. She has admitted to reading nothing on social media anymore. She doesn't want to post anything political that will attract attention to her even if it's about lgbt issues. Y'all should let her be and let her enjoy her money. As a die hard fan since 2011 there is no doubt that Gaga has changed over the years. She's more guarded and private now and silent about social issues.

It's all about ego, on both sides. Being one of the "good ones", collecting together in community and tearing down someone labeled as a defector 

It's the same reason why we get endless threads on this cult site burning people at the stake for using incorrect pronouns for Sam Smith or Demi Lovato, but not a single soul calls Sam or Demi out for ZERO community work and activism lol

Listen I have no problem with miss ma’am getting her coin. By all means make that money! I know it takes quite a bit just to run the business that is Lady Gaga. I also don’t understand how any of this has been conflated with her advocacy for LGBT rights.
 

My only issue is that no celebrity should be paid to pander pills to Americans given the healthcare landscape in this country. It’s beneath her and quite frankly unethical. Now if it was some new life changing medical technology that was going to be available to everyone and accessible via all insurance policies then by all means promote it! But this is a random migraine medicine previously hawked by the Kardasians lol.  It’s ridiculous and clearly something that should have been thought out more by herself and her team. The medication isn’t even available through insurance policies and has a price tag of upwards of $1,000.00 for 8 tablets.

This is why what you claim to advocate for is invalid to me, your actions are more important. Most people who claim to be tolerant leftist activists dont have the right intentions. I think there is a group of leftists that think activism is attacking Republicans on twitter, when real effective activism is much more than that (example is the BTW foundation).

This is one of the most level-headed takes I've seen. I also don't agree with her promoting Big Pharma stuff—I do frankly think it's beneath her, like you said—but I feel like the reaction she's getting is disproportional to what she actually did. Like, the fact that the conversation has now shifted to her entire career and her advocacy is crazy to me. Yeah, most of us can agree that the ad is not in good taste, but why are we bringing in her activism into this?
