Not a yes or no answer for me, it does depend. Some album covers stand out because of the text, in others the text can distract.

it really depends, I enjoy this trend of textless album covers and the use of hype stickers for physical copies

I have no problem with album text in general but it depends what the picture involves. Some images should just be stand-alone and the text, particularly if the font is bad, can cheapen the look of the album. Teenage Dream is the perfect example of that, the font is horrendous and clashes with the image. But you have to deal with the reality of who the artist is as well. If they're an unknown or not very successful, no text is a bad idea as no one will know who they are or what their album's called if they see it. No one will know what name to search for online. No one will be able to research an artist if they have no name references at all. It's fine if you're a legend and have a massive album, you won't need text for everyone to know who is and what the album's called. But for most people and non-fans especially, you need a bit more.
