During his campaign before he was elected to represent Delaware in the US Senate in 1972, Joe Biden who was then 29 years old, run against incumbent Republican Senator Cale Boggs, who was then 63 years old.

Joe Biden said that he considered Cale Boggs' age to be problematic and told him that he was too old to be a politician.

Biden said in 1972 that "it is important for youth to be involved in politics.”

He advertised his campaign with the slogan: "Joe Biden, he understands what’s happening today.”

He said that the main difference between him and Boggs was, that Boggs grew up when Stalin ruled and Americans had visions of Russian soldiers in their streets, while he, Biden, grew up in a time when Americans had and continue to have visions of American criminals in their streets. And he declared Boggs' visions to be outdated.

I don't even call this double standards, I call this triple standards because he is 17 years older now than Boggs was in 1972, it would be double if he was around 63. Also he did not succeed in solving Delaware's criminal issues during decades of his rule. It shows us that once someone rises to power, that person wants more power and wants to forever stick to its power and not give it up. I don't blame exclusively Biden as it seems to be a natural human trait widely observed in many people but it still is a bad, imperfect choice for the further development of a very big nation, and ultimately it is blocking the position for someone else.

I don't know what y'all expect? Yes, Biden is too old, but there is literally no one else right now who can match Trump except maybe Bernie (and Bernie is the same age!).

I love AOC, but folks are delulu if they think she can win swing states like Arizona, Georgia, and (arguably) Virginia. Bernie got ****ing hammered in those type of areas. Kamala...lol poor Kamala, enough said. Whitmer could put up a fight (and has been great in Michigan), but she won't run in 2024. Prizker is one of the few who everyone from DSA to mods love, but again, he won't run. And we can't afford to lose Warnock's seat.

Sadly, there just isn't anyone else who could feasibly run in '24 and win (and the few that could, e.g. Pritzker and Whitmer, won't do it). In '28 when Georgia is even more blue, maybe Warnock will get in the game, but rn he's not going to risk that seat.

This. People keep freaking out, but I'm like...what do y'all expect? Realistically, he's the best shot at beating Trump since Bernie (the same age), Whitmer, and Pritzker won't run. I don't get the point of Democrats and others dragging up damaging stuff or stuff like this because it's not going to change anything.

In '28, at least we'll have a deep bench....and in '36 perhaps the country will be progressive enough that AOC has a shot.

If AOC actually authored and sponsored some bills she could position herself for a 2028 run. She definitely has an energy that would turn out young votes, but she doesn't really put her money where her mouth is. Bernie got hammered because he's too extremist for America, and drew too many similarities with European policy. While most of his ideas are good, swing states are more centrist than what he and progressive states want. Also, half of America's personality is independence and separation from European control. If someone wants to make progress, they'd have to do it gradually and try to avoid comparison with European ideologies.
