I didn't even know there were rules against it because nobody seems to care at the lake I always go to, although I'm not comfortable doing it myself.

But I never understand why this is such a weird local authority thing again instead of just allowing it state-wide for once. It's turning into this big, pointless discussion over and over again instead of just tossing the rules against it and normalizing it

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's necessarily wrong to sexualized certain things...

 

I mean as humans we have sexual attraction... And ur genitals are not exactly gonna be visible walking around. So I think it's totally normal that anything else that is different by sex naturally gets some attention. And women's breasts definitely stand out as something different to the male sex anatomy

 

That being said even tho I get why it is the way it is, it's still a perception at the end of the day. And it's a construct many seem ready to move on from so, if ppl wanna be free to be topless I think it should be their choice

 

But I'm kinda middle ground here. I don't think sexualizing certain things is necessarily wrong per say. But a problem if u enforce the thinking in everyone

I’m shocked it took this long for Berlin. Ontario has allowed women to be topless in public since 1996.

As a cis woman, I’d never do it personally, but it’s always annoyed me that men could be topless and we couldn’t. Boobs are arguably one of the least sexual parts of the body - literally their only purpose is to feed babies

I think they only became sexualized because of how different they are from males (typically)

 

Most ppl will not sexualize an elbow, a thumb, a forehead or a nose because there's virtually no difference between the sexes anatomy there. There's ppl with all kinds of tastes out there but as a general rule, sex neutral body parts do not get sexualized

 

Breasts on the other hand are among the body parts that the male and female sex diverge the most in so I think it's not surprising they became sexualized

 

I'm not defending double standards or the laws that came with it. But I'm just saying it's not that surprising either or as werid as ppl make it out to be. Ppl seem genuinely confused why they are sexualized and imo it's not confusing at all

 

As a bisexual male, I do notice boobs on women and their butts or hourglass shapes if they have them just as I also notice facial hair or muscles in men especially arms and chest. I think it's normal for differences like that to be sexualized

 

But I do agree for boobs it's a bit excessive and I definitely do not believe women should have to cover them if they do not want to

Oh completely, I wasn’t saying that they shouldn’t or couldn’t be somewhat sexualised, it just shouldn’t be in such an… extreme way. As a bi woman I definitely notice boobs on a woman too, but I also notice necks, shoulders, love me a pretty 11 ab line on a woman too. Arguably, for me, legs are more sexually appealing than boobs, so I’ve never really understood why boobs in particular had to be covered when their function isn’t sexual, same as midriff etc. 

you’re so right though, it would make sense for them to be so heavily sexualised due to the fact they’re a difference in male v female anatomy.

There are many migrants from Muslim countries in Berlin that behave after the rules of Koran that state that women shall be covered and [some] women who take advantage of this new permission will likely get harassed or hear comments they don't wish to hear, too, and therefore they will not take advantage of this either. Women want to enjoy their free time and not get harassed. Both the laws of Berlin and Ontario are rather theoretical freedoms that often do not work in real practise.

Here is the user InTheCloset that described his/her experience in his/her home country Pakistan and it is indeed a tragedy.   However, I want InTheCloset to know that things aren't as rosy and easy as it seems in the western world either because in a globalized world different attitudes exist at the same time. In some cities, trans people get hit and beaten up and women harassed. Hate crimes are increasing, not decreasing (depens on the country). Often LGBTQ people have to carefully think where to go in a relationship or dating, when to, and how to go to places in Europa and Canada. Kim Petras herself said she was bullied in Germany for being different and only found freedom in California.
