This will only fuel islamophobia in western societies.

Not really since western conservatives are probably living for it

Western conservatives already hate them. I’m talking about other people who will be vary of befriending Muslims because they might think they’re homophobic.

Idk about @InTheCloset, but for me, if anything, it's the other way around - I used to give the whole spiel too about how anyone can practice any faith as long as they don't harm others... in theory that works but in real life, demonstrably, it just doesn't - religion very successfully breeds this specific brand of bigotry and people do get hurt because of it constantly - enough... People had their fun believing in bs - when it consistently puts a group of people in danger who don't deserve to be put in that position, it's time for that worldview to go.

My point is I agree with this view...a world without religion would likely be a better place in many aspects. My point is, religion will NEVER disappear so pipe dreams of it going away completely is ridiculous. We need to focus on promoting tolerance in religious communities. End of. It's the only way things will get better because if we aim for religions disappearing that just does not make sense and will not happen. It's just being pragmatic and brutally honest.

May I point out out @InTheCloset lives in a muslim country as they pointed out, a giant speech like this is kind of tone-deaf if I'm being honest.

That fact wouldnt change what I said tbh. I'm not arguing if faith is a good thing. I'm saying it's a thing that will continue to exist in societies so rather than promote the idea of it vanishing and being banned or annihilated let's promote the idea of REFORM in these world religions. That's all. and then the rest of my comment was essentially a rant of the hypocrisy of the FIFA world cup, media coverage, players, western nations etc as well as a criticism of Qatar. That's all really. I dont think it's tone deaf at all and I hope it was not interpreted that way but if it was I hope this clarifies it a little more. Not sure though..

You dont know why my hate for religions exists.

Firstly religions are mainly cults that got away with and became large.

Secondly in my case religion has done more harm than good.

Religion has led me to hate myself. Its been going on for years.

Religions also breed violence and bigotry.

Most people use religion as a tool to justify their actions. Religions should never be used to justofy hate or discrimination.

And im ok with people practicing their faith. But in most cases religions come with the decree of spreading it. Like in Islam, Muslims are promised higher ranks in heaven for converting other people into Muslims. That unfortunately results in indoctrination and discrimination.

I have an exam tomorrow so i didnt read your whole comment (sorry) i skimmed through it. But i will read it thoroughly and then answer again

The thing is I agree and understand all that you have written. The point isn't me saying religion is good. I'm just being realistic that religion will not be anihalated and so we need to work on ways of reigning it in rather than promoting the idea that faith can just be eliminated. In many nations atheism is rising but in many others (and you'd be surprised by some of them) faith is actually kind of making a comeback which is annoying. This is why I mentioned religion and extremism and then progress comes in waves and cycles. It's an entire process and the way in which the media has handled the Qatari mess has  been a complete disaster imo with ulterior motives and no real results. All for show.

That's the gist of my comment essentially. I hope that kind of cleared it up a bit? It might have seemed like I was saying something I wasn't? I hope you ace your exam by the way and good luck sis!
