well honestly there was no alternative. The campaign of the left was non-existent, it was reduced to "Vote for us, not for Giorgia Meloni". No ideas, no plans ...

Old people. You promise them no more immigrants, no more of that LGBT stuff they can't even comprehend, you remind them of their fascist youth and they will 100% vote for you.

It's sad how this is applicable to every country. Boomers specifically are one of the worst generations on Earth.

Ok..old people, that's a start, how old? Retired? Working class? What exactly is happening with the young people in Italy?

So making things worse is a better alternative? Just shut up already. I don't even know how you can call yourself a Gaga fan.

Plus it's not like Giorgia had plans except for being racist and homophobic.

Yes, usually retired people have nothing to do so they like to spend their time being racist. Young people definitely didn't vote for her but i guess most of them didn't vote at all

Forza Giorgia :kara: I'm so happy for her, I really hope she becomes the first female premier :)

Are you kidding?  A far right party tries to squash democracy, embraces authoritarianism, and threatens LGBTQ+ rights, womens rights, abortion rights, human rights in general. They encourage racism because the hate immigration. They try to make religion as government and it’s only their religion that is allowed. Wanting to support someone just because she’s a woman while ignoring what she actually supports and stands for is terrifyingly naive.

Shouldn't we support women? Right or left it's the same for me, I celebrate the fact that Italy never had a female premier, and she may become the first one

"Meloni, a 45-year-old mother from Rome who has campaigned under the slogan "God, country and family," leads a party whose agenda is rooted in Euroskepticism, anti-immigration policies, and one that has also proposed curtailing LGBTQ and abortion rights."

Having a female leader is superficial and false progress when that leader/party is anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-trans and racist. Her beliefs and her party's beliefs are regressive and harmful.

Supporting women doesn't mean supporting the actions and beliefs of every individual woman, that would be contradictory and impossible.

Support women by supporting politicians and parties that hold the rights and interests of women at the centre of their values.

This is somebody that has said same-sex parenting is not normal, someone who cheered when her party successfully blocked a bill that would have made violence against trans and queer people a crime.

"Meloni held a speech in which she criticised the on-going discourse around gender inclusivity, which in Italy is now often referred to as the ideologia del gender, or ‘ideology of gender’. She claimed that this ‘ideology’ only further perpetuates the extinction of womanhood and motherhood as we know it, given the inclusion of men and non-binary people as pregnant people and birth givers.

Including trans and non-binary people in discourses that affect them personally does not take away from the experiences of cis women and mothers. However, reducing womanhood and motherhood to the capacity to procreate only reinforces the same misogynistic ideals women have fought decades to move away from."

This is a wolf in sheep's clothing from a party that is anti-woman and a woman who likes to exploit the fears of women to push racist and anti-LGBT propaganda:

"Siviero highlighted Meloni’s “exaltation of motherhood as if the only function of women is naturally being a mother, while at the same time, she denies sexual and reproductive rights”.

Meloni defines herself as ‘pro-family’, and she and her party collaborate with anti-abortion and anti-LGBTIQ+ movements. One of her main campaign themes is the need to increase Italy’s low birth rate by encouraging native women to have babies, while at the same time denouncing the danger of an “ethnic substitution” by immigrants."

and

"Siviero added: “She uses violence against women not to denounce it or to make proposals on the issue itself, but rather to affirm her racist policies against migrants.”

Although this is probably the first time an Italian politician has posted a video of sexual violence to social media, Siviero described Meloni’s tweet as “an old trick” that is “precisely in line with what we’ve always seen” from the far Right.

Violence against women is a structural problem in Italy, with 125 femicidesregistered between August 2021 and 31 July 2022 – more than one woman killed every three days. Despite the majority of the perpetrators being Italian, “the far Right has always brought up gender violence when it was some non-Italian committing it,” Siviero explained.

The myth of the ‘migrant rapist’ – or killer – and the exploitation of women’s insecurity for racist and xenophobic purposes is a phenomenon termed ‘femonationalism’ by Sara Farris in her 2017 book, ‘In the Name of Women’s Rights: the Rise of Femonationalism’."

This is why everyone should hate identity politics. So shallow. Some of y’all would praise Hitler is he was a woman and it shows 😭😭

I see. But we have to do better, I'm not young like many of you guys here, i don't consider myself old, born in the 80s, and it makes wonder a lot how all this far right parties are just growing in Europe. People across Europe that are about 40 years old more or less, make an huge number. We are talking about people that got education and lived through a time of major conquests socially speaking. This people together with the young ones are a great force, however I don't know wtf is happening that what i see is this far right parties proliferating across Europe.

To be honest other continents aren't doing much better lol. I think politics should start to evaluate wtf they are doing and were doing the last decades, cause they are failing, and that undermines democracy, and that leaves space to far right parties. Right now we have a partie like this in my country, and i can't even listen the man speak cause it really messes with my mood. He got good results in last elections, ( it's a small partie for now), but seeing this scenario happening, I'm afraid he can actually be elected next :green:

Let's just hope stuff doesn't get to far right for Italy. That at least people rights that were such victories don't get touch.

Andrew Shaw

Can we as a world just stop with the far right and far left politicians/political parties? They’re both just as bad as each other if you ask me. The vast majority of people lie somewhere in the middle and are left without anyone that represents their ideas and beliefs. Politics seems to be becoming more and more about voting for the “least worse” option rather than a politician/political party that people actually support and trust.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't she say she wouldn't be banning abortion and there isn't any planned change to the 1978 law?

politicians being honest? maybe when pigs fly lol

Feel it's worth noting the people that struck down abortion rights in the US also said they'd uphold previous decisions like Roe v Wade :laughga:

Never trust what a politician says, trust their actions. If it walks like a regressive fascist then it is a regressive fascist.

Whimsical bitch
