Vengaboy 1,282
Ugh I just wanna smack the face of every single person criticizing the choice of Halle Bailey for the role. And they're not just complaining about the fact that they cast a POC but they're actually attacking her looks and abilities as well. Awful. The story about the Little Mermaid has nothing to do with the color of the mermaid's skin. Therefore, it doesn't matter what ethnic group the actress belong to. Not happy about it? Don't watch it and stick to the 1989 version. It's as simple as that.
HiddenWeirdo 4,277
This warms my heart Personally speaking, the 1989 version of Ariel wasn't my role model as kid because of her skin but for her bravery. It makes me happy to see that little black kids are going to have the same experience as me and maybe can identify with her on another level!

Guest
Africans were the first humans on earth apparently! Only makes sense an african plays the role of a mermaid/rare creature
Addison Rae 16,720
the discourse surrounding halle’s casting in the little mermaid is so irritating, the way people are so up in arms over a black woman playing the role of a mermaid is so depressing. just say you’re racist and go instead of looking for things to pick halle apart when she’s more than capable of doing the role justice sitting on his lap sipping diet pepsi
