I'm so afraid of monkey pox after seeing some informational tik-toks and videos of people showing their pox and talking about the pain, long term effects, scars etc :smh:

But you know the gays are NOT going to change their sexual habits, no matter how dangerous/risky/irresponsible. This PSA is a lost cause and is basically just going to cause uproar from the community

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I think guys are also more likely to just be attracted and want sex based on looks. Some women too, but I know a lot of women like me who need at least some emotional attachment to want sex with someone. It's not just society pressure or fear of abuse, we genuinely can't want that just by looking at someone.

That too!

I'm worried for all of those will become infected & go undiagnosed because of the stigma & fear of being seen as part of this community(straight, closeted or LGBT). If we continue to only suggest that LGBT people get vaccinated & base the criteria for being able to get vaccinated on that characteristic, how long until the situation becomes an amalgamation of what we've experienced with COVID, AIDs & other movements that were targeted & stigmatized, leaving millions infected & untreated?

All fair concerns

The advise here in Australia was better imo. They did say most cases involved gay or bisexual men but also clarified this is in big part due to gay men testing for STD/HIV a lot more often as part of their routine Vs heterosexual men and women. So obviously more LGBTQ+ men would come up as positive to monkey pox as well.

I'm sure that's part of it... Maybe the real ratio isn't really 95% or more

However I doubt that explanation would account for a ratio that disproportionate entirely. I do believe it is in fact disproportionately attacking LGBT even if the real percentage isn't quite that high

It's such an interesting discussion though, because many of the new/modern norms about social justice come together here and they are sometimes in conflict with each other. Are we going to be realistic and say that gay men could take their responsibility and avoid a rise in homophobia by being more careful and under-the-radar, or are we going to be principled and say that a straight man's homophobia is never a gay man's responsibility? Do we let non-gay men suggest what behaviour is safer for us and for society? What if the non-gay men in question are medical professionals? How does this relate to parts of the queer and gay community that are often stigmatized by cis gay men - like trans people and lesbian women - are they in a position to criticize the type of culture surrounding sex that you don't see in other parts of the queer community? In general, when social responsibility to stem the tide of this virus conflicts with new norms about sex positivity, how do you move forwards? As a gay man, is there a point where it becomes okay to judge (even if never spoken out loud) people who engage in risky sexual behaviour, like it was perfectly okay to judge people who refused to wear a mask, refused vaccination and continued partying during covid times?

While it seems 90-95% seem to be MSM, keep in mind that the rest might not admit to being with a man. So this very well could be exclusively a “gay” disease that we need to be aware about.
