Usually, it's the other way round for me so I'm at a loss for what to put here until I suddenly remembered this iconic cover of Always On My Mind. Seriously, if you've never heard this before, buckle in and turn the volume up because this beat will slay your entire existence:

That beat is EVERYTHING. But...then the lyrics kick in. The lyrics just...don't fit with it. The original was always sung as a ballad so that's the only way I think it truly works. I can also appreciate the lyrics as a ballad. But when it comes to this cover, I'm just blown away by how good the actual music is but the lyrics are totally secondary to me and I don't really take them in. The music video is also weird and has nothing to do with the lyrics. The beat is too dancey and happy to be juxtaposed with those sad lyrics and there's not even that many lyrics. My only way of interpreting it where it actually works is imagining that someone who regrets breaking up with their ex has had a change of heart and running/driving like the wind to make their way back to them ("give me one more chance to keep you satisfied"), constantly replaying all their regrets over why the relationship ended in the first place. With that interpretation, I can consolidate the beat and lyrics but it still doesn't take away from the fact that the beat knocks spots off the actual lyrics. I mean, I feel like I could run a marathon when that beat kicks in, I feel like a superhero, like the world is mine, like I can do anything.
