Overall the situation is evolving more rapidly than before, and Russia is pushing toward the city from several directions. There are claims Russia managed to more or less establish a foothold in the Borodyachne (although it was not straight up take yet). As the battle for Severodonetsk is ongoing (but 70% lost), naturally many are talking about a potential next move towards Slovyansk soon. What's for certain is that both sides are fighting tooth and nail and the scale of the battles going on in Ukraine's east at the moment is beyond unthinkable and tragic... It's honestly so sad to watch but they are losing and will lose an huge part of their territory and unfortunately everything is going to be destroyed. I don't know what can they do, there's nothing more to do unfortunately (Some politicians like to say that we shouldn't by any means humiliate Putin/ Russia, but have no problem with the Ukrainian humiliation, cause at the end they will lose that territory, Putin will glorify the victory, and rule Russia for decades like an hero.) After Bucha, public sentiment is strongly against surrendering (at least for now). The polls are something like 88-92% against conceding any territory to Russia. They have formerly "anti EU/pro Russian" pols who are now strongly against Russia. They have very few high profile collaborators in the occupied territories, they have to dredge up low level people, because the higher level people don't want to collaborate with Russia. The sad thing is Zelensky was willing to sign a peace treaty, but Russia just won't act in good faith and started bombing freaking train stations and killing children one of the few times Ukraine came to the table. Edited: Read an interesting piece by a Ukrainian journalist a few weeks back that said if Z tried to surrender, now, that he would probably be overthrown that's how against surrendering Ukrainians are. It's a mess, though, as they are losing and Russia is so much more powerful...and yet one can see why they won't surrender when one looks at the wide spread war crimes Russia is committing in Ukraine.
