After it got official that Sweden and Finland will send in their applications for a NATO membership the Swedish foreign office said that represenatives would travel to Turkey for talks to address their objections.
However, the Turkish president Erdogan declared on Monday that he will not approve their applications and that delegations shouldn't "bother coming to Turkey".
"They are coming to Turkey on Monday. Are they coming to convince us? Excuse me but they should not tire themselves," Erdogan said about the planned visit

It's already more than enough with Putin, must Erdogan be a giant pain in the ass again too? :saladga:

but yesterday they said they would allow Sweden and Finland to join if they stopped supporting the PKK (which is a terorrist organization and its true...many European nations support them sadly). Not everything is so black and white in this matter and I kind of have to agree that it is shameful that some nations are supporting such a terror group under the guise of helping Kurdish people. It's shameful. That said, I'm not sure these are times to be making conditions like this. Finland and Sweden are in really precarious situations with Russia at the moment...

When is Erdogan done? He's been here for a long time

Normally this would be his last term, but after they amended their constitution in 2018 he's eligible to run one more time.

I was recently in Turkey and let me tell you.. it would take all of 2 minutes to convince them to do what you want. Give them a shiny coin. That place is seriously left in a pre-1900s state. Horrible place.

Maybe they can kick Turkey out of NATO since they obviously aren't that concerned about Russia attacking them ..

What’s the PPK? I tried googling but nothing comes up.

DW: found it, it was PKK.

They're friends with Russia :lolly:

They also claim Sweden and Finland house some terrorist organization but supposedly so do existing NATO members so that's just an excuse to deny them entry because of that first thing I said.

Even though I do not agree with the decision but the terror group he is talking about is active in Turkey for many decades now...

Oh I know a little bit about it but my main point was existing NATO members also actively back that group. So it's weird to have that line in the sand for Sweden and Finland but not for their other allies and it seems to me their relationship with Russia is no small part of that decision as well.
