Unpopular opinions: Chromatica

• 1000 Doves is far superior to its Piano Demo version and is one of the best songs on the album. I always find myself coming back to it.
• Alice is one of the best album openers I’ve heard in at least a decade (not just Gaga’s). It’s one of my favourite album openers of all time, it feels like I’m being transported into Gaga’s mind.
• Stupid Love was the right choice as lead single. People called it a “flop” because it didn’t achieve her previous lead single successes but seeing as Gaga hasn’t released this kind of dance-pop music since ARTPOP it was received very well by the general public and the song proves Gaga’s staying power.

I love Chromatica. Got me through pandemic! I'm so hungry for her pop stuff so that album was a gift for me.

Alice is overrated, the aesthetic and photoshoots are some of her best ever but they don't accurately represent the sound of the album, and (even though I've come to appreciate it) the album would have been elevated significantly with a different executive producer.

For an album so heavily influenced by club, and House music, it is baffling how little room the instrumentals have to breathe. All of the songs are short, and end right when they finally hit their stride. Most tracks could use at least an extra 30, sometimes 60 seconds.

Holy F this is so good. I'm not trying to trash Enigma but the higher ratio of BJAF:Smegnigma make it so obvious of the better song. Still big props to BloodPop for the instrumental.

Fun Tonight and Free Woman are criminally underrated

911 is one of Gaga's best music videos

The album version of Babylon is better than the Haus Labs version

Stupid Love is overlooked and slept on

Gaga could have released and had success with further singles being released

Love Me Right should’ve just been on the regular album instead of deluxe only

One of her best photo shoots ever is the album shoot

Because, if it's a story with a start in Act I, a middle in Act II and an end on Act III, it is all over the place, she is happy and sad and then happy and then sad and then happy... Imagining it is a story about Gaga realizing being a popstar is bad for her mental health, then she struggles with her traumas and then overcomes them, it would make more sense like this:

Chromatica I (Act I, she is living her life as a superstar, unhappy, supressing traumas)

Alice

Enigma

Stupid Love

Sour Candy

Fun Tonight

Chromatica II (in Fun tonight, her traumas take over, and now the songs reflect het psychotic break)

911

Replay

1000 Doves

Rain on Me

Chromatica III (in Rain on Me she starts to heal and the final act is about this healing. Chromatica III even has rain souds, it's too perfect to come after Rain on Me)

Sine from Above

Free Woman

Babylon (the album ends with Gaga already healed from trauma, singing a classic pop song, telling the listening to battle for their life)

I honestly think the journey of the album makes sense when you consider the adage that "healing isn't linear". Every act represents a different stage in accepting that life will always require you to "battle for your life".

Fun Tonight and Enigma are some of her worst songs and a skip every time for me :reductive:

Yeah I don’t get the love for Enigma… the chord progression/melody on the chorus is so boring.

Rain On Me is our generations answer to Believe by Cher… top 5 in her entire catalogue. It really is that good - everything else on Chromatica pales in comparison.

Replay really isn’t all that in the grand scheme of the album… but the bridge/vocal performance is excellent.

Alice was in dire need of an additional verse.

Stupid Love would have been great had we gotten a proper chorus and axed the Kygo style 2015 drop.

Fun Tonight and Sine From Above are great songs.

Love Me Right should have been a standard track… 1000 Doves SCREAMS bonus track material.
