noa234 5,063
Review Highlights 100 - NME: "An electrifying serve from a left-field mastermind. The star's third album is a dazzling grab-bag of flamenco, reggaetón, left-field pop, glitchy R&B and one song best described as 'despondent gospel'" 100 - RollingStone ES 100 - The Independent UK: "Rosalía’s third record is hypersexual, future-leaning brilliance." 100 - The Telegraph: "The Spanish singer's dark electronica makes her a star in any language; Charli XCX goes mainstream, and Brad Mehldau revisits his childhood" 90 - All Music: "Motomami is at once jarring, jagged, dissonant, experimental, yet sweet, tender, nurturing, and celebratory; it embodies these contradictions without trying to create a harmonious whole." 90 - The Line of Best Fit: "Motomami is the sound of an incredible voice indulging in her pop fantasy and excelling at it, but she makes sure to remind us as often as she can that really, she can do it all." 90 - Clash: "A phenomenal pop explosion…" 84 [BNM] - Pitchfork: "The Spanish superstar’s third album is a showcase for Rosalía’s exceptional range. It aspires to stretch itself out across genres and play with form, and attains exactly what it sets out to achieve." 80 - RollingStone: "Brave, Bawdy, and Completely Uncompromising. The Spanish pop rule breaker follows her own instincts and impulses wherever they lead here and comes up with a brilliant album." Positive / TBD - SPIN: "Rosalía’s MOTOMAMI Is A Hell Of A Bilingual, Multi-Genre Ride. The Spanish singer pushes the sonic and language boundaries of pop with her third album." Positive - LA Times: "On ‘Motomami,’ Rosalía scrambles cultural codes and remakes pop in her own boundless image." https://www.albumoftheyear.org/album/433129-rosalia-motomami.php

Wet Fire 7,577
Exactly how Born This Way should've been received (with numerous 5 star reviews) back in 2011 for its chaotic beauty. I'm so happy for Rosalia.
Thomas P 18,479
I agree. I was skeptical how it would come together before release, but it was kind of like Happier Than Ever. Every song works in the context of the album so beautifully. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

At the time it was perceived as this weird brash loud pop rock opera that was trying to say too much, but in this current climate and with Gaga’s star status what it is today. That ideology has changed and the way we view Born This Way, LGBT rights and pop music in general. The reception would be much MUCH brighter

And don’t forget that 2011 critics were way more harsh.
