What I said was that the school should not get involved in people's personal lives (example: telling parents that their kids are gay when it's none of their business to do that)

Good. Thank you for clarifying. It wasn't very clear by your statement, because teachers do not come to students saying, "hey aren't you gay, we should talk."  This law really targets students who bring up their sexuality to their teachers and teachers are forced to not talk about it and forced to tell their parents or else they are liable and can be sued.

This law really affects closeted kids in unaccepting homes more than anyone else.

And parents are already allowed in Florida to remove their kids from sex education classes.

It's ever-so rare that I wouldn't condemn an ass-whooping, but in this scenario, I can turn the other cheek.

Conservatives (in the US and around the world) gain absolutely nothing by micro-managing people's personal lives and day-to-day activities. Of all the issues in the world why is sexual orientation still the target Conservatives choose to focus on? They are sorry excuses for human beings, and sorely devoid of empathy. I can't imagine all the rage and hate one must harbor inside of them to find things like this an appropriate course of action.

Which is why we continue to fight these injustices

It’s because making up culture wars is the only thing that’s keeping their base intact. If they focused on running on actual policy they wouldn’t stand a chance.

At this point I believe Florida and Texas are doing everything they can to counteract the demographic shift happening so they can keep the majority of their electorate conservative by turning off/outraging liberals.

It's just shocking to me in this day and age that people still lack the necessary comprehension skills that allow them to push the BS aside to make the right decisions. We've got a way to go.

That's actually a good point. Thankfully we still have bigger cities like Austin or Orlando that remain a deep blue.

Me as well. My floridian aunt went on a rant posting about how how schools should be obligated to out their kids to their parents (this was weeks ago, before this even became news) and when directly confronted by myself and my sister (she is a nurse in pediatric care and has seen more cases of physical abuse against LGBT kids than you think you'd see). Instead she continued to insist that the abuse never happens and how the school should "stay in education" and shouldnt be involved in anything else (yes, while saying in the same breath they should out kids to their parents, even suspected crushes they might have). And when given the information and statistics she asked for after openly admitting she didnt know anything about the issue in the first place, she ignored it entirely.

They dont care about the real world consequences of the policies they support as long as it makes themselves feel like a better person in their twisted reality.
