TheBeast 1,580 Posted February 22, 2022 Share Posted February 22, 2022 A new amendment to Florida’s “Don't Say Gay” bill would require schools to inform parents of their children’s sexual orientation within six weeks of learning the student isn't straight, NBC affiliate WFLA reported on Monday. If you haven't heard of the bill, the original version prohibits any school official including teachers to speak about sexual orientation or gender identity. If violated the school could face fines and the teacher could face termination. The new iteration instructs school leaders to “develop a plan, using all available governmental resources,” to inform parents about their children's sexual orientation “through an open dialogue in a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment that respects the parent-child relationship and protects the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of the student." I could never imagine being outed to my parents by my school. It's inhumane and the fact that our governor and the many Republicans in this backwards red state support this is absolutely terrifying... Those poor kids.. You can't hide who you are, 11:59.
